USS Midway Visit
Here's some photo's of a recent trip to the USS Midway in San Diego harbor. The jet collection was awesome, this was the first time I've ever seen a A-3 Skywarrior in person. The ship's history and displays were incredible, even my wife was fascinated! The tour through the ship was an eye-opener, all the passage ways and ready rooms were smaller than I imagined.
We had a great time in the full motion simulator. Kate and I shot down 3 Zeros, she was the gunner and I was piloting...I think we had the most kills for the evening.

RE: USS Midway Visit
Chris,
Hope you're enjoying your time in my neck of the woods.
I have been fortunate enough to be invited to attend the last two years commemoration's of the Battle of Midway
aboard the Midway. A lot of Navy Brass and most importantly, many of the remaining vets who served aboard the Midway
during that pivotal time.
Quite an event and always fun to be aboard.
Were you part of a private party/convention group?

I've been fortunate enough to attend numerous events on the Midway. It's a great addition to the San Diego waterfront, and a 'must-see' for any Naval Aviation (or just aviation!) enthusiast visiting San Diego. Lots of unique planes on display (besides the Whale, there's a Vigi, several A-7's, A-8's, F-18, various rotary wing types, and Phabulous Phantoms on deck as well).
I was invited to attend the opening day ceremony, and got to look deep into the ship with only a flashlight....make sure you don't venture beyond the lighted sections (unless you bring some breadcrumbs for a trail)... Trust me on that one.

RE: USS Midway Visit
Hi Paul,
the ship was closed for only AUVSI (Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International) members for the evening. The entertainment and food was top notch. There must have been 1500 people that attended the event.
We were fortunate to meet one of the vets that served on the ship. We talked for over an hour about the history and aircraft on the ship..These guys are awesome and I would really encourage you guys to talk to the vets while they are still around. They love to tell their stories!
Love the weather in S.D.!
Thanks guys,
Chris
