Where abouts in Australia will you be running it
Aussie beaches are usually fairly wavey
Though there are plenty of lakes there which a boat would go nicely on
I don't know much about that boat, but to be honest I'd generally try to steer clear from such ebay items. They look good in the pic but once you get it the quality is really low
What is your budget? I know for about 600USD you can get decent boats

i would say the quality is very low, i have seen one run and it was ok but no speed demon,
no there doesnt seem to be many rtr boats in aus so your best bet is to build one like everyone else does or maybe see if there are any used boats for sale on the australian forums

You could keep an eye out on tower hobbies for a scratch and dent Rio 51. I have seen them on there with minor issues for around the $600us mark delivered.

$600 is right at the low end of the market. In fact I'd suggest that if you want a halfway decient boat you may want to save a bit more. I would expect to pay around $1000 for a base model RTR gas boat on the water. You may be able to pick something up second hand cheaper. I'd stay well away from the cheap ebay boats. It may look tempting because of the low price but I promise you'll regret it.

There's really no point in buying a cheap boat to try and save money only to upgrade engines etc
I thought the Rio 51 was around 600USD RRP but I could be wrong
I don't know how the water is in Tazmania, but I have seen Queensland beaches and a couple more and the water was rough

I do not own a Rio. In fact as far as I'm aware the Rio is not available in Australia yet. From what I have seen the stock Rio runs in the low 40's. Some people have put zen motors in them and can get mid to upper 40's with a standard zen and low 50's with modded zens and the right setup.
Here is something you could do, I actually considered doing this myself.
Go to Tower hobbies and look in the scratch and dent section. They have the Rio in there that is missing an engine for $195us.

You will have to join the tower super saver club but thats ok. I checked and you can get one of these delivered for $500 aus. Then, go on ebay and grab a zen260 motor. I have seen bonzi sell these for around $280aus delivered.
Throw the zen in the Rio and there you go. A good Zen powered RTR for around $800aus.
You may need to buy mounts, I'm not sure but even if you do then you will still be under budget. You will even have enough to get a better prop.
Good luck.
