You could try it but I have my doubts. If you try it let us know how it works out. If you have the resources I'd suggest investing in a good set of oxy/acetylene torches and learning to braze. To make bumpers and stuff like that you don't need to weld, just braze and it's extremely easy to learn on your own. You could get away with the smaller torch setups they sell at home depot that are a propane/oxygen combination but be forewarned that the oxygen in those setups runs out really quickly and it starts getting expensive fast.
