splicing balsa
I just took off about half of the left wing of my BTE Venture 60 on a misplaced fence. What advice can anyone give me for rebuilding this part of the wing? I have full-sized plans, so I know how to make ribs, etc. But, what's the best way to splice spars, leading edge, etc.?

Splicing
Redford,
What I try to achieve is to make the splice cut of the two adjoining pieces to be at least 3 times the width of the stock.
In the attached pic, you can see where I have made a splice joint in a piece of leading edge stock. The same method applies to spar material and spliced sheeting material.

splicing balsa
Redford;
Done lots of those over the years!! Leading edge. Cut the LE spar at a 45 degree angle, preferably halfway between 2 ribs. cut new piece at 45 and join together. glue a strip across the backside between the ribs, maybe 3/8 thick hard balsa. Sheeting. Cut 45 degree between ribs. glue a 1 in wide strip of balsa with the grain going crossways under the rib with 1/2 in sticking out. Splice the outer sheeting on top of that. Do the same with spars.
