I have a good old friend (He taught me to fly in the 60's) and fellow modeler who is trying to get his Q40 to run reliably. I told him to toss it out an get a new engine, but he want to get it going. So We (fellow club members and I) have talked him into getting a new carb. He has tried gaskets etc but it still won't run very well. I don't know the full details of just what it wont do, but I did say I would ask the experts where he can get a new carb to fit this engine. I can't seem to find it on the Quadra site. Is it possible that I can find one at a chain saw shop?.
Anyone have one for sale or know who does?.

You will make an 80+ year old modler very happy.

The carb on mine is a Walbro WA-58

enturi size is in 1.64"

if he calls Dick at Bennet have him also order a ram air stack.
Quadras sometimes blow fuel back out of the carbs (am having the same issue right now with a Q40 and had the same issue with a Q35 ) and you'll never get it to run right unless you eliminate that problem.
The stack has a baloney cut at the end to force air down the throat of the carb.
One way to test if that's an issue is to hold a piece of cardoard between the leading edge of the carb and the prop wash so you block the air from creating a vaccuum across the venturi of the carb and see if it sounds like it's all of a sudden gurgling from running way rich

I am looking for quadra carb parts also. I have a Q52 with Zema carb. If you only need parts I found a supplier that will have parts, but like kids you will have to look at the pics to find your parts. You must know the body number. Mine is a C1Q body.

I ordered the rubber parts today full kit was $4.65,, but,, cheapest postage was $8.00

Tulsa Engine Warehouse is the supplier. You can get the web address.com with no spaces. Best of luck It is a bit time consuming to find parts.

I have a quadra 42 that will not prime. I can hold my finger over the carb and flip and flip, and the engine never primes. Carb lines are good and there are know leaks. Any ideas???? Shane

I put the Quadra engine on the market in the USA back in 1978. I have repaired hundreds of them when I was in business. What you have there is a Q40, and I can see from the photos that it has two piston rings. The two-ringed engines didn't run good at all, and tended to heat up. They didn't make many that way. We removed the bottom ring and ran with only the top one. Big improvement.

Now then: The carb is probably O.K. but just needs a good cleaning. Remove the screen and hold it up to a light and see if you can see through it. If not - then replace the screen. Also, while you have the screen removed, be sure that the hole below the screen is not also plugged. Either of these conditions will cause the engine to run erradically - or not at all. Also make sure that when you reassemble the engine, use Permatex gasket on the crankcase flanges to get an absolute air-tight seal. If this joint leaks - the engine won't run right.

Someone mentioned getting a velocity stack. You don't need one. The white nylon stack that insulates the carb from the engine is all you need, and it shows in the pictures.

Banshee0097: This is probably your problem also. If it won't suck fuel, the screen or the hole beneath it is most probably plugged.

Reset the needle valves to 1 turn open on high, and 1 1/2 turns open on low. Start the engine and adjust the needles as necessary - usually not more than 1/4 turn away from these starting positions.

I'd love to build one. It would be a great project for the long cold winter! I'd have to "upscale" my work bench and vehicle though.

This message is for Jim Messer or any-one who knows. What was the base engine for the Quadra line of engines,mainly the 50 & 52cc engine? What would be an Good replacement carb? It came with a Walbro WA-144 Carb.

To airborncajun: You know, I sold my Quadra business back in 1994, so I have been away from them long enough to not know how to answer your question. Your best bet is to contact Dick Bennet of B&B Specialties. He still sells the Quadra line of engines, and carries a complete line of spare parts.

To rcdude7: I build all my airplanes in my garage, on a 3' x 7' work bench rolled around on wheels. Here's two photos of the shoop.

I also fly a quadra engine Q50 I had problems with mine too I put on a new carb and new isolator block and solved my problems. the old isolator block is made of bakolite and prone to hairline cracks, aperantly not visible to the naked eye,After replacing it I have had no prblems my engine runs and starts reliably for the first time in 10 years. I also have a velocity stack on it cant tell if it helps any but it did change the needle setting when I installed it Dick at Bennett or B&B specialties can help you with all you're parts needs
