Default Adhesive backed sand paper on work bench

I bought one of these work benches from Harbor Freight with a 20% off coupon. I use a Guillows Balsa building board on top.

It's not a bad bench and the shipping charges were super cheap. Anyway the front edge or face of the bench is wide enough to allow you to run a strip of adhesive backed sand paper along the front edge of the bench and it works GREAT!

It's like having a giant block sander. I'm building a Bridi Air Cruiser 60 Kit and have used the sander (front end of the bench) to square up, touch up alot of the parts as I went along. It's Very Handy.

Anyway, I just thought I'd pass it along.

Great idea. Doesn't the sandpaper get in the way or get damaged byother activities?

I use the adhesive backed paper on my extruded aluminum sanding bar and it works great. I used to spray 3M contact cement to hold my paper to the bar which is OK too. I got mine at my local hobby shop but I've seen it at Tower, Hobby Lobby, Sig or Brodak - not sure.

I buy it at the automotive paint store. It's alot cheaper than buying the Great Planes stuff. The rolls I buy are 2 3/4" wide like most of the sanding blocks used for auto-body stuff.

I don't even know its there untill I need to take a quick swipe on something. I don't have to look for it like a sanding block and its long enough to do fuselage edges to ensure flatness on the building board.
