Carbon Chassis RS4!
Hello again R.C.er's
Just got myself the bargain of a life timeLooking through fleebay last night and saw an original, brand new top carbon woven graphite chassis for the RS4.
I dont think that I have ever seen one of these in the shops never alone on ebay.Of couse it will be put on one of my Rally's and hammered until it breaks just to see how strong they are!........NOT!!!. It will be put away never to be seen again until someone offers me the right price
Anyway just thought I'd tell everyone lol(pose).
TTFN.

Nice find, I wanted one too but you don't usually find the graphite top chassis in the LHS. And if you did find one, they're either really expensive or out of stock. So what did I do? I made my own of course

RE: Carbon Chassis RS4!
The best thing is I spent 35$ and i got a carbon fiber sheet large enough to make a top and bottom chassis, shock towers, and a few more bits and pieces. Much more affordable than the pieces HPI sells

Nice piece of engineering 7M![8D] The chassis I was refering to was an electric but I suppose the nitro one's are as rare as rocking horse poo as well. Can you tell me how you cut the carbon as i am making chassis plates out of GRP/FRP and it's eating scroll blades![:@] Just got a batch of various Olsen scroll blades from the states and am going to see how they fare up. here's my collection so far.The un-used Scooby Mk3 shell was $20.00 or there about and the chassis plates are all new too(carbon in the wrapper) Good luck with your finds HPI'ers.

I cut mine using a simple Dremel with a cutting wheel. Bad thing is the dust gets blown up and you end up looking like a coal miner at the end, I highly advise you to wear a dust mask. And yeah its quite rare, maybe because they don't "Make" carbon fiber chassis' for RS4 nitro's in the first place. Everything carbon was a one off custom cut piece.

7M...out of curiosity, what thickness carbon did you use,and do you feel you could have used thinner material or did you need to go thicker? I am thinking of doing the same but want to use the minimum thickness but retain rigidity.

I thought about doing that, make my own carbon fiber chassis for my rs4 3. buy the carbon fiber on fleebay, then trace and cut real carefuly with a dremel. and drill hole with a drill

RE: Carbon Chassis RS4!
Thanks 7M, just the info that I needed...there's some nice autoclaved prepreg carbon fibre sheet about so I will give it a shot. Thanks again.
