RE: stock xl servo or tower mg995?
I run the tower pros in 4 of my trucks. I like them. they are powerful, metal gear and cheap. I have not had any problems with any of them. My Losi aftershock runs 2 servos so thats over 400oz/in total. Talk about torque. Both my savages turn great with the big Xl tires. Go for it. What could you lose.
Stock Xl servo is only about 125/130ozin
mg955/tower pro is 208 oz in.

the stock xl servo is great. i would just leave it.
there is a cheap servo in the marketplace here and it is a little better than the stock servo. here is the link to it:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=474252
the price is changing every day for that servo. it will be $19.99 with free shipping one day and $36 the next.

That dude is a rip. He is selling a MG995 and not telling advertising it in his ad. He got me. If you dont mind waiting a week you can order the servos online or just use the ones that you have laying around. They make great torque and last for a while. I have had three and one of them burnt up on me. But, it was 10 bux for one and if you buy three it was free shipping. So, needless to say I bought three and still have one left.

so, those servos that i posted a link to are MG995 servos? i'm glad i didn't order any. i was so close to getting 2 of them.
so, do you have a link to where i can get the MG995 for $10? i need a new steering servo for my savage and a new throttle servo for my baja 5b clone.

RE: stock xl servo or tower mg995?
If I were you I would stick to the MG995 only for steering in the savage. In your Baja type vehicle the throttle and brake needs to be a bit more accurate. The MG995 bounces around a bit when it goes back to center, it does not just snap back to straight right away. Just a little heads up on that.
For links: [link=http://www.elemodel.com/shopen/html/product_29.html]one[/link], [link=http://www.toysonics.com/2-x-towerpro-mg995-mg-995-metal-gear-high-speed-torque-servo.html]two[/link], [link=http://www.hobbywin.com/original-tower-pro-mg995-metal-gear-high-speed-torque-rc-servo-p-107.html]and number four.[/link]
As I said before though it is a little slow for the brakes and throttle and has an issue with returning to center.
This last issue does not seem to be an issue when you are bashing. If you are racing, as I only bash, it could turn into an issue.
Definately a steering servo though. Did I say that enough yet?
Good luck
Edited because one of the links was not working!!

RE: stock xl servo or tower mg995?
thanks for the heads up about it not centering well. that is the current problem i have with the stock servo in my baja.
8.95? not bad for a high torque metal gear servo. i took a look at the t-maxx i got in october from a guy in the marketplace and the steering servo in it is a hitec 645mg. well, when i need another servo, i will get a MG995.
so are you sure it is the same servo as the one being sold in the marketplace? the one there is coreless and the speed rating is good.

RE: stock xl servo or tower mg995?
I am positive. I bought the same servos from him and got had. Plus I bought them and the add was shouting buy one get one free with free shipping. and in the end it was buy 3 at 40 bux and get one free.
You are talking about cheapservoguy or something like that. Notice that the servos he is selling have no brand name on them and the picture does not show the name of the servo either.
He also stated that if it is not the best servo you have ever used that he will give the money back. I said I was trying to replace the MG995's that I bought for 10 bux why would I pay almost 4x as much from him? and a boat load of shipping as well? he gave me a hard time with my refund but I finally got it.
I am positive what the product he is selling is. And, I am trying to share my bad experience.
This is his [link=http://cgi.ebay.com/T-MAXX-REVO-MGT-SAVAGE-TNX-STEERING-SERVO-208-oz_W0QQitemZ320331207777QQcmdZViewItemQQptZRadio_C ontrol_Parts_Accessories?hash=item320331207777&_tr ksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C6 5%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7 C294%3A50]ebay[/link] add.
Just a heads up. After I got through with the guy and got my monry back I logged on one day and saw his ad on top of the forum. It was a bad moment. I ran to the shower and hid in the corner and cried.
Here is a link to the guys website where he sells the same servo for 50 bux. with the money back warranty. [link=http://www.powerplusproservos.com/]Here he is!![/link]

Yep that looks like a typo. If they really were 314oz/in it would be a hot servo for sure but its not much better than the stock Savage X servo.

Yeah, just got my MG995 for $20 shipped pair.
Definately not bad for steering.
BUT for throttle, its useless. Does not do anything when you apply brakes!! Just makes noise. I tried both of them in brake side and same thing.
I dunno why though.
AND ARE THESE DIGITAL???

If its working well for the steering....it should at least WORK for the braking ...the only difference is turning left or braking (not positive on that direction!)....although it is said that these servos are not real accurate, it should work. you must have something set wrong...try moving the servo arm a little in the favor of the braking....you probbly have it set to give more "turn" in favor of the Gas.
I just got two of these servos in the mail from China .. [link]http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110352463397&ssPageNam e=MERC_VIC_RCRX_Pr4_PcY_BID_Stores_IT&refitem=1203 62054122&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item &usedrule1=CrossSell_LogicX&refwidgettype=cross_pr omot_widget&_trksid=p284.m183&_trkparms=algo%3DCRX %26its%3DS%252BI%252BSS%26itu%3DISS%252BUCI%252BSI %26otn%3D4[/link]
not installed yet....but I'll probably put one in the steering-and move my 130 ounce futuba to the throttle/brake.
