Default 20cc gasser engine choices? Help

I'm looking at getting my first gasser in the 20cc and under size and my question is: are there any 20cc and under engines I'm missing off my list?

My list so far:
1. Zenoah G20,
2. RCGF 20,
3. BME G90 (their gas version of the ST90)
4. RCS SV17
5. Saito FG20.

Since my primary concern is reliability I'm purposefully omitting the Webra .90 gasser because of the overheating issues which I've read about. Also, I know that one or two engines on my list are somewhat different from each other in that the BME for example is a conversion from glow to gas with some extra machined parts and the Saito being a 4-stroke but nonetheless....Also any quick comments on any of these engines would also be appreciated. I've done lots of research on the Zenoah so I'm aware of its PROs and CONs but maybe if anyone has experience with some of the other engines please feel free to chime in.

I'm looking myself, and considering the RCGF. The Zenoah I have seen video of and looks quite impressive.

These are just my thoughts. Zenoah, people are complaining of high battery draw, use a 3 cell nimh or nicd or a 3.7V lipo and the problem seems to go away. Usually can get these New on RCU for 225.00 - 275.00 if you watch for them.
Saito, I like Saito's , very reliable but this one does cost a little more.
ST 90 Gas conversion, I'd just buy a 2 stroke that was made for gas, not converted.
RCS SV 17 , haven't researched, 20cc is the smallest gas I'm considering.
RCFG, this one and the Zenoah are close in weight and power, but this one cost's less but I'm sure will have less resale if you do not like it. This one will be offered in a rear carb soon also.

Been doing some research myself. I just decided on the rcgf 20cc. There is a new one coming out in about 2 weeks with a rear carb. Narrow profile. Their 26cc looks good too along with the sv26 at RC Showcase. The sv26 has a rear carb and wrap around rear dump muffler, again with the narrow profile. I'm going to try the rcgf 20cc on my rascal 110. If performance is like I want, then I'll probably by 2 more for my busa 1/4 scale J3 and L4. One of the advantages with the rcgf 20cc is that I might be able to rotate the cylinder and face the muffler port to the rear, even better narrow profile. I've been discussing this option with the guys at RCGF and they dont see any reason I couldnt do that. It would take some cutting work on the cylinder skirt to clear the crank counter balance, but I dont see that as a big obsticle. RCGF is also planning on a wrap around rear dump muffler like the SV26 at a later date. I'm waiting on some deminsions for this new engine to see how it will fit in my rascal. Everyone knows the rascal has a pretty narrow cowl profile. If it fits there, I'm good for other planes. Even 120 sized warbirds, but would probably need the 26cc.

I got the new saito 20cc gasoline engine last week. I am going to put it on a Great Planes 1/4 scale RV-4.
Has anyone had one. I have read some on it and it all seemed to be good

Edwin,

Let me know how the 20cc works out. I want to put a 20cc in a Warbird, but will probably buy the rear carb model just incase I need it for future use. I have four Saito's , 72, 82, 1.00, and a 1.25 I like them all. The gasser would be nice but I'm cheap, I'll just have to stay 2 stroke.

Will do! Yeah, saitos are my favorite 4stroke. I have 8, (4 - 1.20, 1.80, 2 - .56, .90). Like the 1.2's best.

Henry, Can we pre-order? All fired up now and I'll guine pig.

Any links to the RCGF20 motor? Might be what I'm looking for on my SR. Telemaster.

Does anyone have any experience with the 21cc engine from First Place Engines? It has a small cross-section, pitts muffler and seems to be fairly light. Pricey, but it is discounted with Chief Aircraft.

Opinions?

I had one but never ran it. The motor seemed very well made but had the appearance of just being a "fancy" conversion. No choke is the reason I sold it for another motor - that and I had gotten a really good deal on it when I bought it so I didn't loose any money.

I too would like to know how the Saito is working out?

Hmmm, I never heard of First Place Engines up til now so that's why it was off my list. It does look very nice but you're right, the price is on the high side ($449 on their site) for a 2 stroke in that displacement range. Personally I'd be almost inclined to spend the extra $80 and go for the 4 stroke Saito FG20 currently listed at $529 at Horizon Hobby.

Anyways, what about the BME G90? Anyone have experience with it? The BME website doesn't list any specs for it other than to say that the conversion can be run on a 32:1 gas mix and a few extra machined parts were needed for the conversion. But I'm wondering what's the new weight of the engine and ignition and also the power output @ what rpm with what prop? Plus it too is somewhat pricey.

If you get a Saito 20cc gasser check out www.advantagehobby.com They had 10% off plus free shipping last week. That was a $53.00 savings

Was one of my best gassers ever. Little pricy, but absolutely reliable.
