Default ALL OF THESE HELICOPTERS I HAVE ACCUMULATED.....

Been into the hobby a year now and can't believe my accumulation of helis (and planes). I've got the blade 400 with a trex (v1) head, a v2 trex 450, a Beam E4, Mcx, CX2, Walkera hm4#3, ..... anyway, you get the idea. When I get into something I tend to go "balls to the wall" Anyway, now I wanna move up.. Can't decide if I want something bigger like a Trex 500 or something smaller like a trex 250 or something of superior quality (Even more superior than my Beam E4???) The Furion by Miniature aircraft. This one is yet another 450 class heli but it looks sharp. After some of you experienced pilots got over the "new feeling" of flying helis and got comfortable with the 450 class, where did you guys go from there? Any replies would be helpful. thanks.

I went to a Gaui 200 after I could fly my 450. Then I went to a T-Rex 600ESP. The ESP is a pretty good deal. It comes with a motor, ESC, voltage regulator, receiver battery, Carbon blades, and all the upgrades for the 600. Flying a 600 class is a whole new experience compared to the 450 and below. It is very stable and can handle some strong winds.

SECOND that evdreamer!

I started with a Cx2, then a Blade 400, then a second 400 so I would have one to fly and one on the bench being rebuild LOL. Then I moved to a T-Rex 500ESP "that comes with the torq tube" and holy cow did I then find out what a good heli was! Knowing I was in the hobby for the rest of my life and while building the 500 I came across and ad for 600 electric cheap, so snatched it up. Now I have 5 flights on the 500 and I just took out the 600 and have two flights on that. The 500 can handle about anything you through out at it. POWERFULL and very STABLE. But when I flew the 600 holy cow again! nothing, and I mean nothing stands in her way. Even more stable, more power than you can imagine................. and no matter how much wind is blowing... is means NOTHING to a 600. Another great thing on the 500 and 600 is you CAN SEE THEM in the sky. However.......the packs for the 600 are $267.00 EACH. For my 500 I use 2 each 2,200 Zippy Rhinos at a total of $60.00 per flight. My feeling is rather than get a 5 cell 6 cell that with two 3 cells if I crash, hopefully one battery will survive.

Hope that helps!

That is mostly the name brand batteries. Zippy batteries and I think Mystery batteries are on the cheaper end. I think a 6S 5000mAh Zippy for a 600 sized is around $110. Then A123 cells are a little cheaper than LiPo's also. Least those costs aren't as bad as a 700 battery at $600.

Hey donny,

After getting fairly comfortable with the B400's, I actually went down at first, to a Gaui 200 SE...and found it to be pretty tough to get a grip on at first, the little helis respond quite quickly, and aren't quite as stable in a hover...I also have a Hirobo Quark, which is a very neat little fixed pitch heli, that is very easy to fly and very comfortable and relaxing.

Later on, I wanted a feel for a larger heli, and took the plunge for the Trex 500. I was also considering the Hirobo Lepton,(super high quality stuff!!) but kinda veered away, because of parts availabitlity and prices. From what I have read, it's very hard to beat Hirobo of Japan for quality, they are in fact, the largest RC helicopter company in the world...

I love the 500, but have found it a bit intimidating at first, still trying to get a handle on it...and, it really likes larger flying areas, so you might keep that in mind too..the little helis don't need much room..

I love them ALL!! That's the bottom line!

Josh,

I can't speak for the B400 or 500, but my 600 on 10S A123 lasts about 5min. People that fly with LiPo's can fly the 600 about a min. to 2 min. longer.

Default RE: ALL OF THESE HELICOPTERS I HAVE ACCUMULATED.....

Josh,

I get about 5 minute flights with my B400, which is at the factory settings, with 1800 mAh packs. Not alot of aggressive flying or 3D, which would make it less. I still come out quite safe on the packs at 5 minutes.

Back when I was learning, and had the headspeed dialed way down, I could quite easily manage 7-8 minutes on the stock 1800 mAh packs, and about 8-9 minutes on the 2100 mAh packs...

But, as I improved, and started adding more headspeed, the safe flight times went down in direct relation to the headspeed increase.

If you use some mild headspeed settings at first, you should be able to safely fly about 7 minutes without danger to your stock pack.

On my 500, I can get about 6 minutes of flight, with alot of room to spare with 2x3S packs, or in other words, two B400, 2100 mAh packs in series. That is flying very conservatively, no idle up, or 3D stuff.

Not too long until April, still planning the B400?

When you are just getting started with the B400 you will be limited to 4 to 5 minutes on an 1800 ma pack since you are mostly hovering. I find that when I am doing mostly forward flight, circles, figure eights, I can go a few minutes longer because the motor doesn't work as hard. Flight times also have to do with the tail rotor belt tension. You have to find the fine line between binding the motor and slipping the belt. Weird noises can mean either the belt is too tight or too loose.
