Default Receiver packs

How long does a 4000 mah receiver pack last and how long will it take to be charged by a charger with a charge current of .1 to 5 amps?

How long it'll last depends entirely on what you're using it for - high torque servos for example will drain the pack much faster than regular ones.

Charge time = capacity / charge rate

...so 40 hours at .1A, 48 mins at 5A.

Wow Only 48 minutes? I was expecting hours. Right now I am using a Hitec HS-985MG which has 172.2 ounces of torque and a Futaba S3003. I don't know how much torque the S3003 has.

Yeah, but 5A is a very high rate of charge for a receiver pack - I wouldn't recommend charging it at more than 1 or 2 amps if you can help it.

What would happen if I charged it too fast?

the cells could overheat and vent, whch would ruin them. I think you would be ok charging a 4000mah pack at 5 amps, but I would recomend doing it at 4 amps.

Refresh my memory. We used to bypass the main batt pack and put in a receiver pack so that all the voltage in main went to the motor. How is it done?

you just remove the + and - wires from the ESC's servo plug (or just the + even) and plug a receiver pack into the receiver....

I have a 7.4 1800 lipo pack. Would that make a good power source for the rx and the servo? I would be using it in my XTM x-cellerator 2wd trk.

not without a regulator (external BEC) a 7.4v lipo is too much voltage for your servos, which are made to run on 6 volts. But with a regulator to step down the voltage, it would be great.
