top gun, here comes my f-84f thunderstreak!
put the finishing touches on the 84 tonight. cycling the new batteries and readying for practice this weekend. this is a phantasy in blue kit from michelle knoll in holland. this is the best jet i have ever owned. huge, yet 38lbs dry. great wing loading. she has a jr 2.4 system, jet cat titan, jmp sequencer, bvm gadgets all over her, and a few other things that escape me for now. also, has glennis scale wheels and tires on the way. i flew this jet in top gun 07 in pro am. i was third after the first round and slipped down from there. still had a great time and learned a lot. she also was runner up best military overall and won a nice cup and bottle of wine. i have put many flights on this model since. i stripped her down over the winter and sanded her back down to primer. then, the master, don yockey repainted her a little more accurate. i made some internal changes and poof, here she is. i cant wait to get back and see all of the friends i made in florida.

Hey Barry,
Looking good!!! That's a solid flying jet and look forward to seeing that puppy with the new finish!
I'm getting ready to test fly my new bird this weekend, Thunderbird F-16 #5. I'll try and post some pics when we've got it out and going.
See you in 2 weeks!

here is the internals. first is the nose. very cleaned up. only the switches, air fills and gauges, and fuel cut of festo is visible. below the removable cover is the smooth stop and rcvr batteries. next is the backside of the bulkhead under the dash. all five airlines, 2.4 rcvr, matchboxes and uat. i have five air systems in place. 3 large tanks and bvm high flow valves. each tank and valve runs one retact. the tires on this jet are 6 inches and the doors are larger. the mains sweep forward as they retract and they take a lot of air, therfore i broke out each gear. the other two are for the brakes and doors. the turbine is mounted the same as before. lastly, i have my good old flex stone paint on the inside. most think that this makes the model heavy. it doesnt. dan gill taught me a trick a long time ago. lay in a thin coat of grey and then lightly mist in the flexstone. it really doesnt cover much area, but it looks like it did and it cleans up the inside so much. barry

LOL!! Driving the 84??!!!!
The 401 dropped right in, plug and play. Me and Shui had it going in no time. There is a small switch for digitals or analog servos.
The 86 was rock solid with just the rudder, even on a windy day, so I've debated using the other two as of yet. Im very anxious to try using all three, but think I might like to try it in something else first.

I like the new colors, Barry. [8D]
Hey, I see you have 3 BVM air manifolds hooked up in parallel it appears... Is this because of a needed higher flow rate for the gear? Or is that working for the doors too?

actually, the air system only appears to be in parallel, it really isnt. each bvm valve is only going to one retract. each valve has two nipples, therefore, each one has a t to the other side then one line out from there going to that specific retract. that is why the valves look to be in parallel, yet none of them share any air with the other. each valve has its own fill valve, air gauge, large air tank, and bvm high flow valve. there are a total of five air tanks and systems in the model. i use to run one tank and valve for the mains and another for the nose. sometimes the mains would be lazy in closing, hopefully this will fix that problem. the retracts worked properly most of the time, now i hope they will function right all of the time. barry

I was considering hooking up an air system for my mains only, and another separate system for my NLG on my F-107, in hopes of increasing the cycle speed a bit... That's why I ask - I suspected you were doing something similar. See ya in Mississippi. [8D]

thanks oliver for the kind words. i did fly the panther. it was tragic, the right stab delaminated and took out the left stab before i could do anything. it happened on the fourth flight, on the third lap, flying formation with another panther. i shut down the turbine and did the best i could do. i had ailerons, rudder and flaps. all i coud do was let the airspeed and ailerons steer me around to the field. i lowered the flaps as she started to go down at a high angle of attack. this helped and she went into the trees at roughly 30 degrees. airframe, total loss. radio needs a looking over. turbine was dented up only. will send it all in for check ups. sickest feeling i have ever had. first jet i have ever lost. been flying turbines for 9 plus years. may she rest in peace. i am not over it yet. barry
