Default RCS SV 80cc

Somebody stop me. I need an engine option for my 30% Carden 300 which weighs in at 18lbs with a DA-50 and 2lbs of ballast on the nose to balance. The DA-50 found a new home on a smaller Extra 260 and my thoughts are to exchange the dead ballast for horsepower. I think the DA-85 is overkill and I have considered trying the RCS SV 80cc from TBM selling for 375.00. I'll get a 2 year warranty on the motor so those in the know lay it on me and stop me if I am making a mistake. Otherwise I will go for it and report back on my experience.

80cc is right at the upper limit on single cylinder engines, go for it if the plane is robustly built, but if it's one of the very lightly built ARFs you might be better off going for the two pounds of lead.[]

I think at $645 the well proven ZDZ Super 80 would be a better long term choice.

At $645 it is a very good buy. So good I have one on the way. Should be here in a couple of days.

For the cash, it might be worth the gamble. I have a new Super 80 that I bought for 645 also. In your situation, I'd try the SV. I have their 26 and it seems to be well made and it runs good. For the half a tank I've burned through it anyway. Go for it.
