Default Futaba 3PM 2.4Ghz owners.

Hi you lucky owners,

Just wanted to know if any of you with this radio run the receiver (R603FF) off a separate 6.0V battery pack or 4.8V off the ESC? Any issues with the 4.8V?

Also can you comment on this which I sent to Castle Creations about the Mamba Max ESC:

"
Hello Castle Creations Team,

I recently purchased a Mamba Max 5700 combo. My dilemma is as follows: I have a new receiver that requires 6V (rated). I think that the Mamba Max 5700 ESC provides 4.8V to a receiver BEC. I don't want to purchase a separate receiver battery pack because of money, maintenance and especially the weight gain to my 1/10 off-road truck.

I would like to know if it is possible to add a 1.2V "AA" ni-cad battery in series to one of the ESC-to-Receiver wire (red?) and essentially provide the 6.0V my new receiver needs? Is there any bad issues? If possible, how would I actually connect the battery to the wire electrically? Would you allow me same warranty if I make this change?

"

TY

Did you ever hear back? I have a Mamba 25 set up for my RC18T and just got the FASST System too.

Thanks!

The mamba esc provides 5 volts, not 4.8v. Pretty much all escs have a 5v or 6v BEC. A battery in series with the BEC would kill the battery pretty quickly.

What servo (s) are you running? If you can solder it shouldnt be too hard to make an external BEC from a few "The Source by Circuit City" (thats radioshack for all you none Canadians) parts.

Of course if the radio runs of 5v, you dont need to.

Well, it looks like the 5v is not enough power for the receiver. I can't get the receiver to turn on using the Mamba system... uggghhh

I have the 3PK version of the Futaba 2.4GHz and it automatically goes into failsafe if the voltage drops to about 5V. Because of this, I use a 6V hump pack (5x 1.2V NiMH cells).

Now, with this in mind, it is possible to push 6V from 1.2V NiMH AA batts, you just have to fabricate a batt caddy to mount 5 AA bats instead of only 4.

I ran my 3PM system with my E-Maxx with the stock EVX2 ESC with no problems. I should get my MMM in about a week and I'll let you know how that works. I've never heard of then not running on 5v before.
