I don't have alot of time on it but the red dual fiberglass, like comes on the XL.stops great, doesn't seem to fade,I would recommend this set up.I paid about $12.00 for one of mine on e-bay.
I have the dual stainless steel on one of my other trucks, works great:unless you want to stop

Sure you got it adjusted right? I have the dual stainless steel (mine was a X SS to start with) and it works great.

Go for the red XL stock brakes!
The dual vented steel one is CRAP!!! IMO
I tried to install on my XL and the screws were not right and it was binding up so I used the stock screws and some washers that came with the kit and it seemed ok.
Within a couple tanks one of the pads came off. (Due to heat I would assume)
And yes I cleaned the metal pads with alcohol before sticking the friction material on.

I'm now sitting with no truck until I put the new set of stock brakes on.
Sucks that I have to take the trans or diff out to remove driveshaft.
Anyone got an easier way to chg the brakes???

The red fibers work much better than the stainless. I think I have some new stainless sets in the salvage yard that probably will die there.

Slayer, take the side screws out on one side from the transmission back, both corner screws and the side skidplate screws Now you can flex the plates and slide the rear shock tower, bumper, shocks, skidplate and differential out as a unit...do your brake work and put it all back together. Glen

ThunderbirdJunkie does not understand what everybody's problem is with the SS brakes.

The SS dual disks flip ThunderbirdJunkie's lowrider forwards if ThunderbirdJunkie breathes forward on the trigger

^^ Werd, but they are one off. I've had mine give great performance for a gallon and have the pads torn off. Its been a little over a gallon on new pads and I can do endos easily, we shall see..

ThunderbirdJunkie's brakes are the same exact ones he bought in Feb 2006. He replaced the pads in 2007. These are off the shelf.

Not everything ThunderbirdJunkie owns is one-off

As everyone said, the stainless brakes are terrible. With decent pad material they could work well, but the HPI pads wear very quickly.

Fiberglass with steel pads is your best bet.

You're experience is ubique TBJ. When I used them, the pads always tore off after a short time. Even if they do work, the dual fivber also work, and do so better IMO. The fiber is also cheaper (I believe). THe dual fiber can flip a truck, so nothing more is needed.

I broke 1 fiber disc when my engine mount and plate broke in a crash causing the CB to split a disc in 2.
I just shimmed the remaining disc out and ran 1 fiber disc for several gallons and even with only 1/2 the fiber brakes it would still frontflip.[sm=tongue_smile.gif][sm=shades_smile.gif]

Here is quick fix I did on the Dual Stainless....As you guys have stated is the Brake shoes come apart. I had mine do this in less then 15min. So I went to the work station and looked around the garage. I spotted a set of work gloves. I inspected and noticed that the wrist was pretty thin leather...so I took off a shoe cut out a template and glued it to the shoe.

I put it all back together and she works fine...It was doing front endos 15 min later. I havent had a problem after 4 tanks.

Five star'd. Thanks for the creative solution. I'll give it a try if my dual stainless has any issues.

Also rated 5.

I might try that first to not have to take the truck apart.
Curious tho, what type of glue did you use Quick23?
Epoxy? Super glue? Shoe Goo?
I think I'll try epoxy and score the metal pads so it might stick better.

Thanks again for the good tip.
I was thinking of using gasket material...

Yup. Leather is a great choice for friction material. I have a set of the XL red brakes on the way. Hopefully they slow down my 40 series Masher's a little quicker than the Dual stainless set.

I used Shoe Goo on that sucker. So I have one side that is regular friction material and the other is the leather from the work glove. With the dual disk set up and I doubt the leather would work on both sides, because of the thickness of the leather...

Savage stop pretty good now. I just fine tuning the tension so she dont go ass over tea kettle...

Hmmm, problem I saw with the fiberglass ones that cam on the savage I have been working on was the center gets stipped after time. I replaced with the SS dual kit, and 0 issues, stops on a dime.
