Hello . I am using two lithium manganese batteries in series . Duralite made up a four cell lithiunm ion battery for my Pegasus but it didn't put out enough power .[sm=punching.gif]

If I ever needed to save the weight you bet I would, AMT of old sent me a 9.8VDC for my Mercury and Pegasus, Jim W said that their test cart powered the ECU off a 12 volt car battery which I'm sure fully charged would be over 13VDC.

Of the max volts readings across Mercury, Pegasus SP and AMT 400 I've never seen more that 4.8VDC max to fuel pump.

A DC battery as a power source supply does not have an identifier as to its chemistry so therfore if the volts DC are proper and amperage capable or C rating to MAH, its good to go in my mind.

A mercury uses a 7.2VDC pack and a 2s Lipo will give you atleast 7.9 VDC all day long to its rated MAH at the low pump readings I see which are always under 4VDC.

Cheers.....02

The four cell lithium ion battery that Duralite first made up for me should have given me atleast 6 runs . I barely got two start and runs of about five minutes each . The people at Duralite told me that the AMT ECU was drawing more power than the lithium ions could deliver after two starts . The replacement batteries that Duralite sent me , lithium manganese of the same capacity , easily gives me five starts .

Hi Dan,
I'm using a 3S 2200mah Lipo on my Pegasus ECU with no issues at all.

I've been using the Air Thunder Lipo's with really good success in all my jets, both for ECU's and Receivers.

Hi Dan:

Are you asking about one of Bennie's ECU's or AMT USA......I have no experience with the latter, but I do have a .pdf I can send you straight from Bennie regarding battery selections

There are 3 addresses in the ECU that need to be changed when using 8-10cell NiCD vs 3 cell LiPo vs 4 cell Lipo.....two of the adresses modify the startup and shutdown parameters for the motor, i.e. minimal voltage for start and min voltage before it shuts down, and the third adjusts glow plug voltage.

You do need Bennie's software and USB-EDT converter plug to do the changes.......

As far as battery input voltages permissable with his ECU, he specs Air-Start->9.0 to 16.4v********E-Start->12.0 to 16.4v. This the same for all his motors using the V2 ECU.

I also have a note from Bennie re: address settings for A123......

If you need any of these, let me know.

Tom

My AMT is an air start engine so I can't really count starts as far as battery life goes.
I am using a 3S 2200mah pack on my G Booster right now as well though and I got 5 starts out of it before the day was over, I'm sure I'd have gotten a couple more had the day been longer. Switched the G Booster to the Lipo after I left my ECU turned on overnight and Killed the Li Ion pack that was in there.

I've used the following types:
1. a stock behind the local hobby shop counter-can't think of the brand name- Lipo amigo.
and
2. i'm presently using a 4300mah LiMn Duralite ECU pack from Dreamworks. it runs my AT 450 "airstart" alllllllllllllllllllllllllllll day long

not sure what the batt draw is on the electric start motors.

i'm up in Illinois this weekend and i'll ask John Ligons AMT USA to chime in when he gets a chance.

freakin kold and windy but i'm having fun

cheeers

Dan,
You can use up to a three cell Lipo on any AMT USA ECU. I would use a four cell A123 myself. Either is a good choice. Get something in or over 4000 MAH and you should be able to go all day with air start, or 8 to ten cycles with electric start. I love A123's because of the quick charge capability, and no danger of catching fire. If you have any other questions, please feel free to drop me a line. I will do my best to get your questions answered.

Hey Dan,

I've been running 4-cell Thunder Power 4300mah packs on the AMT NL ECU's without issue. They do need to be configured for Lipo use which I think Tom explained here in detail and shouldn't be a problem to change the ECU settings for this.

With that pack on the Olympus, I average 6-8 flights including full cool downs, etc.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dan:

Your friend John asked for the .pdf's, but my emails keep getting bounced. Maybe his security software kicks out the .pdf which is in HTML format.

If I can get his home addy, I will be happy to mail out the settings if he still needs them....

Tom
