Hi Kelownan

No definately not! I have a Blade 400 that came with the DX6i and I fully intend to fly my "new" Hurricane 550 with it! You would only "need" to upgrade to the DX7 if you wanted 7 channels. You only need 6 for the Gaui. It is quite compatible with the AR6000. I would even stretch to a 6100 or 6200. I think you will find that the DX6i is actually DSM2.

Having said all of this - the general concensus is that once you go to a DX7 you'll never look back!! I might even go with the DX7 package with the digital servos and RX - you can always upgrade servos later.

I hope that helps.

I have a Hurricane 550 with long boom running 550mm blades and I would recommend using the AR6200 with the satellite receiver due to the large size of the canopy on it. Depending on where you mount a single Rx the signal might get blocked out on rare occasions.

I am using a DX7 with AR7000 only because I needed a new radio when I built my Hurri, and found a great deal on the DX7,AR7000, and 4 DS821 servos for $200. The servos work fine for general sport flying on the Hurri too.

If the AR6200 is compatible with the Dx6i, that is what I would recommend using. I use AR6100's on my smaller helis though and they work great.

Crikey - don't think I have ever come across a DX6...

Your predicament sounds very much like mine... I model sitting there, partly assembled waiting for the electrics!! I have the cash - my wife won't let me spend it... That's why I like your signature too!!

I don't think the Dx6 is compatible with the AR6200 rx, only the AR6000. I suppose you could try mounting it somewhere like on top of the gyro or something where it would be more out in the open, but the wiring would be a nightmare, lol.
I am not saying that the AR6000 would not work, but I myself would be a little hesitant. Others might disagree with me though.

Kelownan ~

As the others have said the AR6200 or the AR7000 RX would be the best and safest route without a doubt just because of the extra satellite receiver that would help secure a good signal. Although all you have is the AR6000, it could still be done... Just a bit more of a risk... Location like Jerry said would be the key in helping however if you do go with just the AR6000 RX on the 550.

I use an AR7000 on my Trex 500 which supports 430mm blades, but then on my Logo 10 which supports 500mm blades I skimped, and also only use an AR6100 RX. I just mounted it on the back topside of the craft, and have never had any problems with that set-up yet. It could get you by using the AR6000 if you had to in otherwards...

Here was a video 3 months ago doing my first loops with the Logo 10 and using the Ar6100 :

And there are a few pictures below of where I mounted the 6100 on the Logo below.... Hope this helps some...

Oh... Hi Jerry and Jon...! Small world eh ?? !

yeah the 6000 is regular DSM whereas the 6100 and 6200 is DSM2, some have said that theirs a 'range difference'

ive never had problems with by DX6 but then ive only been running on a Honeybee King.
mind you i have never had problems with FM transmitters either. just the cheap ones that come bundle with
co-axes.

I got my Dx6 when they were being rolled out cheap just after the DX6i was released i believe.
one of the lucky ones but i think now i regret it a little.

I might try to grab a futaba perhaps. most of the Heli guys at the local club fly with futaba t8chp's
theyre 8ch FM radios and running Raptor 50's

maybe someone will chime in on what the difference (safety level i guess) between a FM and a Ar6000.
im guessing its mainly due to not having to worry about Radio channels.

People have been flying with FM for years and still do. It is just a little more prone to outside interference than the 2.4ghz.
The biggest thing is if you fly at a field where others are flying you have to know what channel the others are using so that your radios don't interfere with another pilots heli while in flight

Up until this last summer I was using a DX6 with AR6000 receiver in my Hurri 550 with no ill effects. I mounted my receiver in the very back bottom of the frame and made sure the wires were outside of the frame. The thing you have to remember about a helicopter is that you typically don't fly it far out like you would with a fixed wing model, so reception isn't really a problem.
