Default could someone please..

.. explain the "paper trick" for setting the pinion/spur mesh? thanks.

put a piece of paper between the pinion and spur, and set it so that it's snug but not too tight. You should only be able to remove the paper when the gears turn - that should set a pretty good mesh.

u should have about 1-2mm of play or just a "tick" of play between the 2 gears-once u get it figured out you wont even need the paper anymore. use reg office paper-post its and others r thicker.

Do as sheograth said. When you pull the paper out you should have nice, crisp lines in the paper, If you have cut paper, you are too tight. If you dont have crisp edges you may still be too loose.

Also as said, after a few times you'll get the feel for it and won't need the paper any more.
