issues with airline on Spektrum antenna
I have always put airline on my JR2.4 reciever antennas to keep them stiff and straight, and i was informed that using BLACK airline (other colors are ok) causes problems. what i was told is there is a small amount of carbon in the black tube that helps to blind the antenna.
ever heard of this?
its a non issue...25 cents and 15 minutes to change mine out just to be safe - no big deal. Im just wondering if its a tall tale? having said all this i have flown with black on mine for a long time with no issues.

RE: issues with airline on Spektrum antenna
The amount of carbon within the black tubing is enough to blank out the signal responce over the percentage area of the covered antenna, if we say the antenna is 50mm long and the piece of black tubing is 5mm long that is a 10% reduction in reception area that the antenna is working on, this could cause a major problem at extream range.
The above statement is garbage, but was written by me. so I can say that without offending anyone.

EDIT: forgott to mention pink see through air line increases your range.

I have hundreds of flgihts on four different jets and routinely have fades near zero on all antennas, I have used all colors of airline and never a problem.

RE: issues with airline on Spektrum antenna
Hi Kirk:
I use the opaque gray 3mm tubing JetCat ships for their propane lines......Never a problem with my 1221's or 1222's......never tried black airline tubing.......conductive gas tubing, like on gas-powered hand tools, uses carbon in the wall for static safety, but never thought about airline.....
Only problem I have ever had was with my Coverite Presto covered F-100D......1221 RX's did not like being buried deep in the fuse....had to move 2 of my remotes RX up to the cockpit.......no similar problem with FliteMetal F-86....
Still working hard to get a maiden in on the Firebird before it snows......Your precision building skills continue to amaze me as I progress with the install.....

It is not the color but the material and yes there is a lot of black tubing that contains a small percentage of carbon. Since we don't know what black tubing contains carbon and what tubing doesn't why not be on the save side. I do have personal experience with black rubber material containing carbon that was enough to become a shunt or conductor across live wires. Again why not be on the save side.

I use black airlines on my receiver antennae, and I can tell that my plane is actually 7 mph faster as a result!
It's fine.

Dont forget to use anti-static fluid either........
Dont forget to use anti-static fluid either........
Quick story, my fuel can used to get cover by grass on the bottom of it because the static would cause the grass to stick to it. After using the anti-static fluid, it doesn't happen anymore. If used in full strength, that stuff works.
If you don't use it, START. You may just save yourself a plane.

RE: issues with airline on Spektrum antenna
I used to give Chad all kinds of static about the anti-static fluid...unfortunately I have to admit he is right...the stuff works. The hair on the back of my arm used to stand up if it was near the fuel container or the pump when filling. Now no tingle and no grass on my fuel container.
