Default How do I Limit my Articulation

Okay just got this nice Rubicon body on with my HB Rovers 2.2....problem is I want to keep it somewhat scale looking with the stock chassis but I know the fenders will get chewed up.

I already added as many spacers as possible to stiffen the shocks...what else can I do?

Should I put on 1.9 tires/wheels and lower the body more or would that look funny?

First pic is with spacers and lowered body and the last two pic is how it looks so far.

get some silicone fuel tubing and put it inside the shocks (under the piston) to limit the articulation. This will also lower the ride height a little.

I think it looks pretty good and it would look alot better (and crawl better) of you lowered the body height to get the tires to fill up the wheel wells.

You might also want to look into going to a droop setup on the shocks (no springs, just oil). It will keep the center of gravity lower.

Yep planning to do it this weekend.

I got some 1 inch hex extenders to stick the tires out an inch on both sides to give it a wider stance. However I think I will need to get a longer steering bar for the front due to this...

I will post results after. Found it on ebay listed as Axial extenders.

You can try adding limiter straps( i have seen anything from heavy duty fishing line to small diameter wire cable). You would have to figure out the best place to mount them, but you can stop the articulation at the exact point you want without too much fuss...Maybe look at some full sized rigs with limiters to find the best application. I have not performed this mod yet.

Good luck,

Ended up adding neoprene fuel tubing flush above the rod ends about 3cm this reduces uptravel. Perfect however there is just no compression now...the rig bounces around cutting through grass...the oversized memory foams are doing most of the shock absorption now....still crawls pretty well given I have reduced flex by about 30%.

Might have to redesign my backyard course to be less harsh haha.

I have added the fuel line to my shocks and did not like the way they performed after...The fuel line is better used if your shocks make your rig too tall, not for performance and such. The limiter strap would at least keep the integrity of the shocks performance intact and simply limit the amount of articulation to exactly where you want to stop. Give it a whirl. It is more scale than a fuel hose jammed inside the shock body...LOL

1/2 cent

Most of the time when i see them on a scale rig they are home made. (see my first post here). They are very simple in concept and application...You have one strap on each side of the axle that are at a determined(by you) length for travel. When the axle flexes, the strap on the opposite side of the axle will stop the axle from moving past that predetermined length of travel.

Here's a pic of a real ones.....

You see that also on Monster trucks... its a simple idea that works real good. For limiting movement internally, having the fuel tubing on the inside does the trick nicely [8D]
