Default Ram 500 solenoids

I have had the fuel and gas valves to go bad on my Ram 500, in that, one does not
close, alowing gas to flow always, and the coil and valve failure on the other. These are
the small ones with diodes in them. I tried WD40 but no luck. I need two new or used
in good conditions if anyone has them. I know Carlos has them at RTI, but I would
like to find them cheaper. Email me or PM if you have any. Thanks .

Nobody answered you yet? Let me try to help:

Forget the gas solenoid.. you can use a simple festo with a check valve and start the turbine directly from the gas can.

Now try if one of the solenoids is working well on the kero circuit. If not ,simply remove it too as in the dark ages many people prefered to fly without it as it was a frequent cause for flameouts.. but you will need to always remember to close the manual valve while refueling to avoid a hotstart.

Johnny: I have a RAM 750, and when the kero solenoid failed, I called
Carlos at RTI, he told me to use the engine without the solenoid. When I
runned the engine it had 3-4 lbs. more thrust. Seems like it woke up.
As erbroens sais just be careful to close the valve. As for the gas solenoid,
you can start it directly too.

I may have my original set of R500 solonoids. Traded out the ECU 1-2 years ago. The 500 is still running, now using an Eco FADEC, with manual control of the gas and starter motor and no solonoids. Will check tonight.

Thanks guys for the info, one question, are you starting with PowerMax? and
how are you manually feeding the gas in?

Thanks

I suppose, if you want to continue doing 'Autostarts' with your R500, I would get a simple manually adjusted valve to regulate either propane or powermax from an external (off board) tank. Just as long as it is gas, and not liquid. I use a large knob valve from a old cheap (Bendix?) propane torch, or you could get one of the needle valve like regulators used by Wren from Ron Ballard. You want to be able to repeatedly get the right flow of gas when you want it. I would set it up initially to give just a nice 'hiss' when on, and test start it with gas (but no kero) just to be sure your plug gets the gas to pop properly and that there is enough gas so that when the the starter motor kicks in, the fire doesn't go out and temperature fall before the fuel ramp begins. Once up in rpms on kero above self sustain-26-28 krpm, just turn of the gas.

Got diverted last night and didn't check on my RAM parts, but I am pretty sure the solonoids are there as the fellow wanting the ECU didn't need them. Send me your email and shipping address.
