Mine has a ST 45 with pitts muffler and apc 10x6 at about 14, 700 at sea level. Not much left of the cowl on one side. The nose gear that comes with the kit is worthless. Replace it during the build. I had to put 12 oz of lead shoot in the tail cone, and a 1500 MaH battery behind the wing to get the cg with an empty tank. The tank is very far in frount of the desired cg, so on a full tank the plane is very nose heavy. Inverted flight requires full down elevator, because of the flat bottom airfoil. Outside loops are out of the question, as are snaps, spins etc. The plane does look awesome, but has a limitted flight envolope.

The Motor mount was on WRONG. yeap take a look at the pic look at the center line
anyways.. I picked this plane up with new Motor ( OS .46 ax ) and a NEW Futaba 6ex PCM
For a minor steel....
So enough on this post enjoy the pics.... I have already started to modify my F-4
and if anyone else would like to PLEASE post some more pics of yours.. More the Marrier.... lol

Since I have had the plane in my hands I have taken all the servos that were installed out.
I have read another thread on this sight and Everyone has NOSE WEIGHT issues.
so I thought It would be best to start from ground zero just wipe the slate clean
as they say..
well I straighted out the Motor mount that in its self took a while. lol
I like to tap the entire motor mount hole and install a Lock nut on the other side,
Then came the Cheap nose gear . yeah the one in the kit is Junk.
need to step up and buy a good 5/32 nose gear save you alot a time and head ache later.
at least thats another problem this ARF has that others have already had to deal with.

Lets get back to the CG issues.
I dont really like the dual pushrod set up on this plane so I acted on it.
I figured I would install 2 servos in the tail that way It gets rid of the Dual rod.
so check this out.

Here is some more pics of the Tail section with the servos installed and complete.
I have also built a battery box. which will be Epoxied in the tail up against the
frt of the after burners if the plane is upright it will be sitting on the bottom floor.
I have been balancing this plane everytime I add a single Item.

Here are a few more pics I have the battery box installed.
I really like the outcome of it I centered it and its low center
of gravity when the plane is upright.

Anybody still flying their Lanier F4 Phantom ?

I dragged mine down from the ceiling yesterday afternoon. Built it 6 years ago. Haven't flown it in four years. It wasn't retract-ready, so I had to do a lot of mods to install the Robarts retracts. It's powered with a Jett .50

What a mess after sitting dormant for all that time. Carburator barrel was locked up, prop was locked and wouldn't rotate, battery was dead and fuel lines were hardened up.

Spent all day yesterday doing fixes and flew it today. Forgot what a nice flyer it is ! Guestimate about 75+ mph. Maybe 80-90 mph in a steep dive.

Tower Hobby shows it's been discontinued.........too bad !

Yes. I fly mine actually alot even though I have about 40 planes lol..
I really like the way mine fly's as well.
I did alot a mods to mine other than the RETRACTS. I thought it just wasnt
worth the trouble Hell I have a OS 46 and mine and was already clocked at 80 mph.
but Mine is Light Considering I didnt add any DEAD weight at all.
thats great that you are flying yours again but honestly You might have hurt the
horse power since the motor was locked and gummed up.
I have actually scared a motor cylinder wall due to debri.
Thats just speculation on my part. I would have thought and I dont know now
what your weighs but the JETT 50 motor should pull it around much faster than mine
I would have expected.
What other mods if any have you done to yours?[img][/img]

Team,

I may be on the low side on the MPH..........I'm only guestimating. Maybe it was flying faster. Someone told me it looked more like 100+ instead of my guestimated 75+.

I remember six years ago when I bought that Dubb Jett engine (my first Jett). I gave Dubb a call and he was firm when he told me to run nothing but a 10x6 APC.

He told me he tunes his pipe to that particular prop. He must be right because it will pull a consistant 17,000+ rpm.

When I flew it yesterday I had a terrible time getting it airborne due to the grass at our field being cut too high. During takeoff I was holding full up elevator to attempt to make the nose light and clear the grass. Then without warning, she just jumps into the air.

From what I remember, it came out very nose-heavy due to the beefing of the fuse to install the nose retract. I also had to use a small fuel tank (5-6 ounce from what I remember) because of the retract mechanism.

Now I'm thinking.......hmmmmm.........how about that Cermark F-16 with a Jett .90 ?

OH YEAH I have too thought about the CERMARK with a HOT motor..... and the 90 sounds like it would
fit the bill.. lol
that plane with retracts and a Jett 90 would be blistering in the air. Sounds like a GREAT idea.
only problem for me is I have way to many projects right now.
Scratch building a PT 19, then there is my P-38. not to mention the PITTS 50cc Bipe. ( I am still working on )
There was one on this web sight for sale a while back he only wanted $300 for the KIT. he was from
Virginia. I prolly should have bought it..
MY plane was TOTALLY NOSE heavy. that why I opted for putting 2 servos in the tail for the split
elevator.
I also built a custom Battery box in the tail as well. and all is well she fly's GREAT.

I have had this plane for several years and finally just finished it this evening. When I went to balance it, I noticed the CG was about 4" from the leading edge; however the manual states aroun 6-1/2 - 7-1/4 (or somewhere in that general area). Is the CG in the manual correct because that is about halfway down the wing?

YES THE cg in the manual is correct. You have to add a lot of lead to the tail. I think mine was 12 oz with a ST45 up front. The landing gear is really weak. Looks good. Will fly inverted with full down.

I believe most of us have found it necessary to add a lot of dead weight to the tail to achieve the correct CG.........including me. Read through this Phantom thread for some of the fixes. Most likely you will need to mount the battery into the tail......not an easy task.
