The clicking is normal when it first fires up. it's cause the idle is high. then when the idle drop down the forward clutch arm stops tring to ingage. Now for the shifting
make shore the truck is warmed up and isn't run to rich, it won't shift if those 2 thing r a factor. get it nice and warmed up and do some high speed
passes. If she still won't shift, then pop the rubber tap off the top of the trans and use a 2mm hex and turn the set screw to the left in 1/8 incraments. till it shifts.

You cannot make a stock t-max move by spinning the spur gear by hand. There are internal, centrifical clutches that will not let the truck move (forward or reverse) until the internal rotation of the transmission reaches a predetermined speed.

As for shifting, tuning is usually more of a factor than the setting inside the tranny. Be very sure that you are correctly tuned before you start trying to adjust the shift point. It is pretty easy to get the shift points completely out of whack.

For the clicking, some might be normal but if it's too bad or too loud you may have broken a tooth or two on the gears inside the tranny. You can always pull it and take it apart to check. It's not a difficult thing to do.

The new TMaxx 3.3 has a forward only transmission and will move the truck forward when the spur gear is turned counter clockwise (when looking from the rear of the truck)
If you were to install a forward only conversion (FOC) into the Black 2.5 tranny it would also move forward when the spur was turned.

The clicking you are hearing is most likely the common "bucking" the 2.5 tranny with reverse is known for.
Due to the design of the forward/reverse output gears and clutches at low rpm’s and slow acceleration the clutch will engage and disengage the internal clutch bell rapidly until sufficient rpm's of the gear keep the clutch pawl engaged to the clutch bell.
There is a mod called the "no buck mod" that will keep the truck from bucking/clicking or you could simply install a FOC and eliminate it entirely.
