acoms 27 Mhz throttle dead - new crystals needed? - help!!
Hi all,
A very RC inexperienced parent here trying to help a disappointed son…. Apologies if I posted incorrectly! I do have some science training so all is not lost I hope!! I have read
"Electric Guide" [/b]but I I think my question is more specific

My son has a Tamiya 7.2v RC car given to him by a neighbour who went to uni. (lucky boy!!)
Components are:
Acoms AP 201 controller 27mhz
Acoms AR 201 receiver 27 mhz
Mtroniks HF 250 device (with battery wires and motor controls going in & out.)
All worked fine for a while but channel 2 has stopped working.
I have done the following:
A. Swapped plugs outputting from AR 201 – channel 1 on AP 201 now turns the wheels successfully but steering is dead (so I guess motor and Mtroniks are OK as the wheels respond)
When this swap is done, Ch 2 on AP201 still produces no result
B. I re-connected the outputs from AR 201 to correct sockets. I Joined the control wires from the pots inside the AP 201 and tried both controls – both Ch 1 and Ch 2 controls produced steering but still no wheels turning. I guess this means both pots in the AP 201 are OK?
C. I have swapped the crystals around upside down, from AP to AR etc – no change – steering but no wheels turning (unless AR 201 outputs are swapped as in A, above)
I'm guessing Channel 2 is dead, either at the AP 201 or the AR 201 end.
Should I buy new crystals, an AP 201 or AR 201? The lot? My son reminds me channel 2 went down just after a small bump. Are the AR 201s susceptible to shock damage?
Any ideas please? All suggestions gratefully received – thanks!!
