Default Band Saw Blade

My 94" band saw is ready for a new blade.
What blade do you guys recommend for balsa and lite ply?

Default Band Saw Blade

I get my blades from these guys: Suffolk Saw Company

Call the toll free number and tell them what your sawing purposes are and they will get you the right one. I do a bit of hardwood cutting and their blades are the way to go. They last long and its like cutting butter. You can also get them at Woodcraft if you have one near you but expect to pay a lot more. I like the Gschwind blades.

Default blade

use a blade that is about 12 or more teeth per inch

I have used 8 pt blades but it leaves a string of balsa on the bottom edge of the cut.

Default Band Saw Blade

I like the so called "aluminum cutting" blades for cutting wood. They usually have about 14 teeth per inch and very little set in the teeth. Makes nice, smooth cuts and last a very long time.
I use a Craftsman band saw and Sears sells these blades for this saw in the proper length (80"), but most saw shops can supply saw blades of this material in any length.

I agree with Herb, the metal cutting blades work great in balsa and in most other woods.

Ditto on the Sears blades. Cheap, work well and they last pretty well.

Default Tuning Bandsaw

I have a new blade on order from Suffolk.

The following article was useful to me as I worked through making my saw perform as well as it can.
