Gee Bee Racer
I thought some of you would like to see a couple picures of the Gee Bee Racer that my friend is scratch building. It is patterned from plans from a u-line kit from the 1960's and updated for RC. It has a 42" wingspan and will be powered by an OS 50. The cowl is made from a plastic bowl purchased at Walmart. It should be ready for its maiden flight in a few weeks when the weather here clears up and the flying field dries out.
I will try to post more pictures of it when it is finished.

The cowl is being painted this weekend. Nate is still waiting for the Pitts style muffler on order from Bisson. He mounted the engine on his Dazzler and is using that plane to break in the engine. He didn't want to maiden the Gee Bee with a balky engine.

Gee Bees are awesome brutes! Yours look very nice. FYI: the color of the pinstripe on the origional is very dark blue in case you were going to add it. Good luck with the maiden!

This is the look that Nate is going for. He is getting custom graphics made for the dice and other trim. I don't know what he is going to do about pinstripes. The Pitts style muffler just showed up from Bisson, but the graphics weren't done as of when I talked to him on Sunday.

RE: Gee Bee Racer
From the 1961 Model Airplane News Annual? My dad started one when I was kid, I picked it up
but never quite got it finished off. I always had issues with the power, needed a big prop but only
a .20-.25 max. for power based on size and weight. A diesel never occurred to me back then.
Now an out-runner electric is perfect, so technology finally caught up with my technical problems!
That thing has been around for 40 years now. I also found a bowl that was perfect for a cowl at
some point. My Dad had built and planked one out of 1/32" balsa. It's a thing of beauty!
Good luck on the wing fillets, they are a challenge.
