Default 3W-75ius muffler

I am looking at getting a new muffler for the 3W-75. I have the Johnson standard pitts muffler on it now and the mounting is a bad design and is not working very well(the bolts come loose and brake all the time). Another reason for replacing it is because something has come loose inside the can and it is making some wicked noises.

I was looking at the Supersonic mufflers on AI and they look like a good design and a better muffler for the same price as the Johnson.

How does the noise and the performance compare?

Thanks, Brian

That muffler looks like the one I have on my 3W 75. I got it from AI.

It's not exactly quiet, but the performance is fine.

The 3W-75 is a great engine, very powerful and never a problem.

barflies- I like the engine.

the weird noises where because the muffler was separating in two.

Thanks for the info. I am considering building a Ziroli P-47 92 inch WS for my first gas powered airplane. I saw on Aircraft Internationals web site that this motor is on sale for $ 550. Sounds like a good deal so I may go for it.

Thanks, Chris

My second cousin flew p47s in WWII for the 73rd Fighter Group- 318th Fighter Sq and the name of the Sq was Barflies. Hence my name. He was KIA and would build this plane in his honor.

Again, thanks for the info and advise would be welcome.

What is the difference between the 3W's 75i and the 75iUS?

75-I = rear induction
75-IUS= side induction.

If any of you get a 3W-75 put a supersonic muffler on it and you will be pleased. With a menz 26-10 I was only getting 5700 with the Johnson mufflers and now I am getting 6000 with the supersonic! The supersonic is a way better design and is very simple.

I was hovering yesterday and it was hard to keep it from climbing!

I am proud of my supersonic
