On the Tiger 1,I see a chain attached to the round escutcheon on the rear of the canister, where does the other end go? Thanks.

RE: ? on Feifel air cleaners
Actually, there's 3 chains that are attached to caps. 1 on the bottom of each chamber and one in the middle. I've always wondered what their function was too, but lost the thought when I got rid of the air filters. I can only assume it was to drain any excess build up of water and crud. Only info I've been able to find was the inventor of it and why it was made.
This is an early version I believe. I don't think late tigers had the same Fiefel.<br type="_moz" />

Wow, only 3 hours this time. Not bad!
Actually Late Tigers had no filters, at least the external type as shown. Thought you would have read that part.

Wait, now I am confused. If that's not considered an early version, then what version is on the later tigers (not the metal road wheel Tigers?) There's two types of Fiefels I've seen. The one I've posted with individual chambers visible and the other that is in one enclosed housing (like the ones that come on the HL and Tamiyas.

System was dropped sometime in the mid production run, and on a lot of early Tigers the system was removed later in the war. You can see some photos of Tigers with the brackets but no system.

I like the looks of them, with the air hoses and all. I'm leaving my tank as an early type, just trying to give it a little detail. I'll be asking questions soon on paint colors and techniques. Thanks all.
