Which size gas eng fits PT-17 Stearman 71.5"?
I tried OS 1.08 with Pitts muffler (cylinder pointing down) but had lots of problems with fuel being siphoning on PT-17 Military Stearman (71.5"). Idecided to goafter gas but need your help whichsize will fit best.I am thinking about getting Zenoah G20 or G26 or Fuji 23.9cc.The weight with OS 1.08 mounted is at 12lbs 12 oz.Or is there a better gas engine out in the market that suit best for PT-17 Stearman? Thanks</p>

w8ye is correct, go with the Zenoah. My guess is the G26 would be a good fit. How is your balance? How do you like to fly? The G20 should pull it fine if you don't like to rip up the sky. Not what the PT-17 was designed for, but when did we let that stop us? If you can handle the weight in the nose, I go back the the G26 again.
Enjoy!

It is according to what you are looking for. If you want scale type speed the G-20 will definitely do it. The G-26 will give you tons of power and it will fly very fast.

It all depends on what you want to do. Any 26cc engine should give you plenty of speed straight and level, but you'll be seriously lacking in vertical. You have a bipe which sucks up power big time with all the drag. I have the Super version of this plane and will probably end up with a 46 in because I can't stand under powered planes. Bare minumum would be a G38. I'm not saying I want to hover the thing, just some nice uplines leading into a stall turn. I had a hangar 9 Talyorcraft and it would fly along at a good clip wide open. Verticals were lack luster to say the least. A buddy has the Aeromaster with a Fugi 43 and that flys pretty nice.

A guy in the club had one with a G26 in it. Seemed like good power to me. Not really over powered. What I would call good emergency power.

I've got a Great Planes Super Stearman with an SPE 26. This engine is just adiquate. It will do scale maneuvors but lacks in verticle. The SPE is not a power house. Turns an 18-6 Master Airscrew wooden prop 6,600 - 6,700 rpm. Plane weight 14.5 lbs. If I had it to do over, I think I would go a little larger, say a 28-30cc. A G38 would be on the high end.

I have a friend using an Evo 26. I have a Saito 180. I like his set up much better. Both engines have more than enough power. I think the extra weight of his engine helps the plane overcome ground effect making it a better landing plane. I've flown them both.

Choosing between a G-20 and G-26 is more a weight decision than power. For example, the Ultra Stick Lite balances perfectly with no weight added with a G-20 and enjoys unlimited vertical... a G-26 on one though having more power, does not enjoy unlimited vertical due to the increased weight. When going vertical it is not just about power, it is what weight and power net.
The Great Planes Super Stearman is reported to need the nose weight and balance well with a G-26 so there would be no advantage to the lighter G-20.

I have the Super Stearman and I'm putting a RCG 26 in it. The
engine is currently in a 1/4 scale Cub that weights about 13lbs.
Pulls the Cub around at about 1/4 throttle but vertical is limited
to short climbs. It turns a MA 18X6 - 6700 and a APC 17X8 - 7800.
I may later install a DLE 30.

When I finish the Stearman will post some photos. The engine
sounds good, has a effective muffler that keeps the noise
level low.
