Default Brillelli 46gt

Just wondering if anybody here runs the Amsoil Saber synthetic 100:1 oil in there Brillelli 46gt engine? Trying to figure out if I should go with the Dominator oil at 50:1 or the Saber at 100:1.

100/1 is too lean for our engines, I believe. My 46 likes 40/1. I used Amsoil for a while, now I dont. YMMV. Thor.

I'm still mixing 40:1 using basic Pennzoil right now, still getting her broke in. How many gallons did it take yours to get brok in good?

Probably 5 gallons for break-in, being real gentle. if you dont mind wiping down the plane at the end of the day, it will run cooler and last longer at 40/1 mix. I have seen pics around here somewhere that suggest Pennzoil aircooled builds up less carbon, but I have an old grudge against their stuff....when you think about it, it's a chain saw engine and was made to run on 32/1 or 40/1 dino oil. Why switch if your using Aircooled Pennzoil?

The B-46 is a Poulan conversion..... Good solid and dependable , and good power.... This was an industrial engine, I use Stihl Ultra synthetic at 40-1 in mine, on a TFGS Mustang. I have no problem with other oils, but this is an industrial engine, so I use industrial oil....
Incidently, the only cleanup is a little fog from the carb intake...

Ran it at 100:1 on Saber for a while, no issues.

Switched to Royal Purple at 90:1 runs like a raped ape.

We have been using Amsoil "Dominator 50-1" in our Brilliey 46
and ALL of our gas motors and have never had a problem...
Started using it after an article in "Model Aviation Mag"

I've got a brillelli 46 also. I've been using the Klotz Synthetic at 40:1. I'm new to gas and am wondering if I should be using something else? Thanks.

If it ain't broke - don't fix it.

One of my icons in our hobby is Ralph Cunningham, of RC Ignitions. He says to start with Pennzoil Air Cooled at 32:1 and stay with it. That's good enough for me.

I started with Penz 32:1. Switched to Stihl synth at 50:1 after a season. Gained a few hun rpm. No mess. Tore it down once to check carbon buildup - all soft, no hard scales. I like the stihl. Two full seasons on Stihl so far.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Diviatix. That has been my experience also. Everyone has their own experience with oil additives, and all this input is helpful...
it's an individual choice , and that's as it should be....I have good results with Stihl, so that's what I use...

I converted a few 46s before Brillelli ...Put the adapter on, then drill and tap a hole all the way through the adapter sideways into the oval intake stub.....8-32 works well...Use Loctite on a bolt, then cut flush on the inside...Can't possibly come off...I put a 5mm flathead straight down through the adapter into the original pulse hole in the cylinder, and screwed a pressure tap into the case and ran a pulse line to the back cover of the carb....
rcfaq.com had some pictures...

I don't understand people saying they have to clean up their plane after running the engine with a 40:1 mix. None of mine(33%) have any more than a very light deposit of mist on the belly. 30sec with the Krud Kutter and one paper towel clean the whole thing. And that is only about every 5th trip to the field. Maybe my oil threshold is higher than the OCD types. ;-)

There might be an issue with one of the truly non-combusible synthetic oils but for most oil types, there shouldn't be any oil mess if the engines are tuned correctly. I've never understood the so called oil crud from gassers. Recently, I have been running a 30cc engine some and do see a bit of oil residue from that but for 50cc and above, almost none.

When the engines are new, there is usually some black crud from the exhaust as the rings are wearing in but that goes away quickly and no oil type would change that process much.

I have two TFGS Mustangs , both in the 23# area........One is powered by the B46, and the other by a DL-50.......The B46 flys the plane very well with a 21-8 prop, with good power and speed......However, the 50 is not only larger, but with a 22-8 prop, there is a noticeable difference in power and speed... the B46 is a great little engine, easy starts, good idle and power, but it isnt on the level of the DL or DA engines...
