Sig 1/6 Cub on a diet
Hi
just wanted to share my next project with you guys!
feelt the need for some water action today and dug out my old 1/6 Sig Cub, and a pair of foam floats.
Ripped the covering of the plane and cut away all balsa sheeting, makeing it much lighter!
thought of powering it with a cheap geard 550 motor, but the power was´t that great... looking deeper in the drawers I found a graupner 2:1 belt drive, and after some modifications I got my Mega 22/20/3 to fit, powerd it up on 10cells swinging a 14x7! man this setup got some punch! no question it will fly!
just need to get some oracover-light and some micro servos
this will be fun! I´ll get you some pix soon

Weight of the plane as on the pic is 1264g which includes motor and ESC. bettery isa 10cell 1250, 420g, then add a couple of servos... um... maybe 1800g, then the floats on top of that.
so I´m guessing I´ll reach an AUW of 2,2kg, not too bad

the motor choosen is a Mega 22/20/3, mounted in a modified Graupner 2:1 belt drive. it swings a 14x7 APC E at 45A, which hopefully gives me plenty of power to take off from the lake.

YAY
ready to fly! AUW is 4,7lb, thrust is about that too, power is now 10xPanasonic2000 nimhs, as I only use full power for takeoff I think those cells will do.
was at the lake doing some taxi tests this night... floats very well and seem to rocket away at the smallets throttle input
now I just need to find out if it breaks loose from the water surface too
I´m surprised that the AUW is that low... plane with floats and all

Hi
posting some pix! I changed to a 13x6,5... the 14x7 was way over propped and the ESC shut down from heat. the 13" prop is still a bit too large, but it works for now. getting 7-8min flights now.
Power is great! I easily outclimbs the other .40 sized float planes powerd by FS52
enjoy
