Pro-Link nose gear question
I bought the deluxe gear set for my Elan. The nose gear seems to haVe an issue:
When seated in the actuator, the shaft around which the nose strut rotates is not long enough so the set screws in the strut can secure the strut to the shaft.
I assembled it like this:
- I put the heavy collar on the strut and affixed the E clip on the groove st one end of the shaft
- I dropped the shaft and collar into the actuator and tightened the clamp screw on the actuator to retain the shaft and collar
- I slid the aluminum tiller arm unit onto the shaft
It is at this point that I can see that there is not enough shaft left over to reach the set screws when I drop the forked strut onto the shaft. Other than shaving down the height of the tiller arm unit (which wouldn't work because you can't take that much off the nicely curved/smooth bottom anyway), I see no solution short of a new, longer shaft.
Anyone else run into this?
Michael

RE: Pro-Link nose gear question
Yep had exactly the same problem, had to make up a new longer shaft to make it all work, also the grub screw adjustement points on the main stuts are a weak point, if you use the struts on anything other than a smooth surface that is where they will bend or break.

RE: Pro-Link nose gear question
Michael,
The problem is you where supplied the wrong steering tiller assembly. The unit shown is for Airpower Struts, not the Pro-Link and was packaged in error. Replacement being sent today.
Mike,
Highly doubtful you had the same problem since we did not have this tiller assembly when you purchased your gear set. Additionally, we have MANY customer flying our gear off of rough grass without issue; I am sure many here can attest to that. Not sure why you feel the need to continue to make this statement when it is completely untrue.... most of the world does not fly off of a MINE FIELD....

I just tell it like it is, one of my struts broke at the grub screw and the other bent at the grub screw, to your credit you sent me a new pair, but I had already replaced them with another manufacures set and they have lasted much longer, they are the facts, nothing untrue about it.
And I still fly off the mine field.

Todd, what do you expect from a guy that can't spell ''Eagle''?

The reason for the spelling of Eagle is that Bald Eagle was my call sign in full size aviation, but someone else had it on RCU before me, hence the slight change in spelling.
