They're both very good. They each have models that are "better" in their respective classes. What kind of vehicle are you looking for?

define better?
HPI usually is more in line with entry level raceing, but make some damn tough trucks
Traxxas is usually more for bashers
There both decent manufacturers that both turn out pretty decent RC's for the cash

ummmmm
Ford vs Chevy...

Depends on what you like. I'v owned all four and liked, and disliked, some stuff about all of them. None are better or worse than the others on everything.

Hard choice tbh both are large companies with years of experience and good aftermarket support and warrantys so you cant go wrong with either.

from experience though..

stampede -cheap tuff hard nails
baja - beast!!! [>:][>:]
tmaxx- made of glass lmao [] my worst investment but they do have a big following but id still pick a savage over one anyday

To over-simplify things, TRX is better at the lower price stuff, and HPI is better at the higher end. Like tiger said, the savage stomps all over the maxx, but if I needed a cheap truck, I'd take a stampede over a wheely king any day.

Agree HPI's lowest end product IMO shouldn't even be classified as hobby grade (EB10) its made so poorly.

To me, it seems like one of Traxxas's big selling points is top speed. For example, they label everything, even their boats, with their top speed. HPI's selling point seems to be durability. Though really, just flip a coin. Their both very good.

That's just a marketing gimmick. I'm sure it works well for their sales numbers, but it's irrelevant to actual performance. The flux versions of the vorza/firestorm/savage are every bit as fast as the vxl versions of the bandit/rustler/emaxx. Honestly, they're all too fast for the average user to control at top speed.

That's pretty much what I'm getting at. But yes, in the end, the average joe will probably crash their vehicle pretty often.

Sell both brands and Id take most HPI's over a traxxas counterpart, I just feel more quality when i pick up my Firestorm or Savage.

to be honest i think that hpi understand what sort of power a brushless system can produce so they put it in a buggy like the vorza and it rip s and is hard as nails, but traxxas put in a massive brushless system in a lets say revo and it rips but when you get to the limit it is way more fragile.
hpi design their cars for the power (the savage flux diffs being an oversight)
traxxas put in the sytem and the find the faults making for a car that just about survives....

just my 2 cents

one other oversite the Brama 10b (or EB10)
that sucker will break from its stock 35t motor without hitting anything. Truthfully that was the 1st HPI I was extremely dissatisfied with. Other than that one the 4 others I own I've been happy with.

It really depends on the application. For high speed bashing, yes the stampede would be better with its independent suspension. For crawling, however, the stampede wouldn't stand a chance against a Wheely King.

Depends on the car or part in question. They both make stuff I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole and some totally awesome vehicles. If I could only buy from one of those companies I'd go with HPI because of their lineup, and the fact that I'm a Baja 5B runner. Now if only they'd make a gas powered 1/5 scale monster truck using the Savage's TVP Design...

Never had a hpi, but own 2 traxxas, brushed 775 revo and a BL 2wd slash.

they are very strong things. at the track i love to launch the slash and overshoot the down ramp on purpose. havent had anything break, although the truck has upgrades on weaker parts. only had a shock leak oil; partly due to the bladder having a piece torn from the side.
