14mz update

RE: 14mz update
There was thread on this about a month ago, lots of people have updated the 14 and the 12 with sucess, some had funny results from their card after downloading the new software and could not get their models saved on it back, so make a copy before you download the update, I did not have any trouble with the 12 and the models where still usable on the card, so its a bit hit and miss, but if you transfer all your models off the card into the Tx everything should be OK.

RE: 14mz update
I did the update, nothing else!
(well, I copied all my models to a empty CF card just to be safe, but didn't have to use it)
The models are converted automatically when loaded the first time (from either the radio's memory or compact flash, if I understand the instructions correct)

I agree my 14 was fine to upgrade, no issues. I do like straight to transmit on 2.4

RE: 14mz update
The upgrade does offer more, I mentioned that just to show it is worth it.
If you go on the web site there is a pdf of new instructions of the changes, depending on what you fly will decide if the others are of use. But minimal risk if you follow the download procedure

RE: 14mz update
Two of the best features is the change to the Idle down programme to enable an Idle up as well for aircraft, so put it on your retract switch and have a higher Idle during flight, faster spool up times and less chance of a compressor stall at low revs.
The facility to have a big screen timmer is also nice if your eyesight is anything like mine.
Change aircraft direct from the front screen.
Lots of other functions as well.

BE,
How do you get the large numbers on the timer? I did the upgrade but have not seen how to do that...
Also, one of the Futaba reps told me the update gave an option to use multiple receivers .. any idea what that's about? I could not find it in the docs .. there were a bunch of choices for resolution vs. sensitivity that would seem to apply to future RXs.

To get the large timer numbers use the scroll button to highlight the small clock on the top center of the screen and push the scoll button.
Have not found the multiple Rx facility, but it does give a "Mulitprop" function to attach the MPX1's onto channel 11 or 12 wich gives you 8 extra channels on each, fully proportional with end point adjustment, but no facility to trim them you then have a total of 26 channels available, note they will not work with Hitec servo's presumably will only work with Futaba servo's.

How do you range check in the new firmware.... I tried today at the field, and since it transmits directly now, there is no option to turn off RC signal and enter the Range check function. I came back home without flying

RE: 14mz update
Sorry mine is the 12FG don't know if the big timer screen is available on the 14.
Anurag.
1. While pressing an arbitrary point on the touch
panel, turn on the power switch. A confirmation
screen is displayed. Select [NO]. Since radio
waves are not radiated, Range Check is
performed.

BE,
I love the MPDX-1, have one in my Yellow F-18. Even though all channels are fully proportional, have not used it for any primary flight surfaces .. but really nice for accessories like speed brakes, lighting, retract valves, etc. I don't think there is anything about the MPDX-1 that prevents it being used with any servos but now that you mention it.. I have used it to run some not-servo electronic stuff and in some cases had to put a buffer in to get it to work. Been meaning to put a scope on it to see what's up ... do you know?
Thanks for the tip on the timer, I'll try it.

I have no idea what stop the MPDX1 working with certain servo's just know it will not work correctly with Hitec 5625's, 5645's and 7955's wich unfortunatly are my favorite servo's at the present time, if you find out please let us know, and if you can how to get around it?
Mike
EDIT: Thinking about it I do have some Digital Futaba servo's hanging around somewhere I will try them out and see if it makes a difference, will post here what I find.
