Headlights are my cool new addition. I usually play with my car at night time and practice drifting. These lights add a special look, and *kinda* light up my dark road but not enough to really be useful. In any case, this hobby is about replication, and I think they look pretty cool. What do you think?

If you kids are interested, I can show you how I did it using a diagram and maybe some pictures. It's pretty easy, the hardest part was placing the headlights in the body correctly.

Hey everyone, you can also do a search on the web for "RC switch" you put this on your 3rd channel in your receiver (no need for servo) and hook up the LED light circuitry to it to turn them on and off... I will be putting them into my car shortly once I figure out what type of body I want for it....

I got my light set-up for my Serpent Impulse on E-B-A-Y for 14.99 It come with headlight, taillights and is completely pre-wired for a 9-volt battery. All you have to do is drill 1/4" holes and the light have mounts on them already. It took me about 5 minutes to install them! For 24.99 they have a set-up with "active" lights. They have a gravity switch pre wired that puts on the high beams you hit the gas and the brake lights when you hit the brake. It is an easy way to do lights if you do not want to wire them yourself. I'll put pics of the serpent on here soon. The seller is Steamy-Concepts. You can search for them on E-B-A-Y.

hey tigger...........yeah they are made by RAM. They shine an area of about 4 X 8 feet in front of the truck. Doesn't matter how bright they are..with the power and speed of the Fantom 27 engine in the Savage you can't keep an eye on whats in front of you anyway. I mainly use them just so I know where the truck is when I'm driving.

sl4,
Your lights appear much brighter. I did sort of the same thing but instead of using a straw, I used some hard plastic airplane parts to enclose the bulbs.

sgold,
I used to have some RAm lights on my "nitro" T-Maxx hooked into two 9v batteries. I took them off since the light buckets seemed gigantic, yet the lights were not so bright. Most of my light kits are made by either Kyosho or Megatech and are hooked directly to the electric motors in my Mini-Zs or my Mini-T. Some were also built into Carrera slot car bodies that I own and have modified to fit Mini-Zs.

I'll probably pick-up some other brands at the upcoming HobbyVisions show since I spaced it out at RCX 2004. I kept walking by the "neon" booths, but I forgot to return and purchase the stuff after my 4 day stint at RCX. I'll probably also pick up some carbon fiber sheets too.

Of course, you should shine them out like headlights, show how bright they really are, and see how long they last on a track. After all, it doesn't really matter if they are any brighter than the next guy's lights if they don't last.

Looking good, guys! I just finished my Porsche 911 Turbo body and will be posting up something new here pretty soon. One thing really hard about the LED's is mounting them forward like real headlights. I'll see what I can do. They are mostly for looks, anyways.

I made mine from a bicycle flasher thingy, and 2 led mini key chain flashlights, 3 bucks + tax from a 99cents store, then I just use some old telephone wires laying around the house. They are powered by 2 rechargable AAA batteries. The headlights were from the key chains, and the turn signals and brakes are from the flasher which has 5 modes in it.
I placed a mini switch for the main power and 3 miniature switches besided the servo arms, one for left, right and reverse. The turns signals flash when the switch is pushed by the servo arms. I have a msc, so the reverse also activates when the car backs up.

I did not go with the 9v battery just to cut it down with a resistor. The resistors also gets hot.

Here are some pics

I'm not sure than using a 3rd channel will really help light up brake lights or headlights. The power on the 3rd channel is always on, if I understand correctly. So there will not be a way to shut off the lights via the controller.
the way to contol the head lights with a third channal is you build the light setup the same way you did, but on the positive wire put in a momentary push button. (switch that closes the circuit only when the button is pushed)
Get another servo and connect it to the third channel on your reciever. Then position the switch next to the sevo so that when you push your third channel button, the servo turns pushing the switch. This will turn on your lights
