Sorry to say the circle at Swope Park has been removed to make more soccor fields. The circle at Kansas City, Kansas City Park was removed from the location by the ball diamonds to the old street car turn-a-round. Now it is a soccor field that is not being used. It even has lights and bleachers. Could not get any improvements when Flying Eagles were active. I am the last of the Flying Eagles and Sky Devils of KCMo. Now fly with the group in Topeka called TOPCLASS. Lately been flying over at the Argosy Casino trying to get enough people that maybe they might put in a circle. Right now it is rough grass. Also at Shawnee Mission Park there is a circle I maintain that is a barely legal grass circle. -DOC

Although I just went past 60, I'm not a retread. I never got out of CL (or powered FF, OHLG, Kites, or any other form of non-full size flying). I still fly R/C, too. And I am still able to fly hand launch gliders at the local FF contests.
About 14 years ago when I first joined the North Coast Controliners out of Cleveland, Ohio, I brought the membership up to about 16. I think the latest roster showed about 43. Of course, back then, the CL field outside Hopkins airport was still active with it's 8 circles. There is now a Hotel on that site, and the club now flies at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds.
Judging by the number of CL planes advertised in the Penn Valley Hobbies flyer, I'd say that CL is actually picking up.
Membership in the AMA has always had it's ups and downs, and we are probably in a down trend right now.
In my opinion, if we loose the AMA, Model aviation as we know it won't be far behind.
