Just ordered my Spitfire and hope to receive it within a week or two. (a loooong wait)

The Keleo exhaust will be a great product to have on your Spitfire if you plan to have a MKIX or later model, I would have got it but my Spitfire is a MKV (can't do the MKII previously planned), there is plenty of space in the fuselage to fit the can.

Correct in the latest MK.V version, I should have added that my model will be MK.Vb with the three fishtail exhausts per side. Here is a picture of the painted static stacks.

@ flyingchef. I really like the cockpit on your spit. Really Really nice! I a uilding my second comp arf spitfire. I'd really like to detail the cockpit like yours. 1.) How did you get the rivtos on the foam former. 2.) What method do you use to measure the formers to make them fit in the fusealage perfect.. 3.) The walls are curved what material did you use. 4.) your seat is really nice. Id like to send mine to denver warbirds who would be the contact. Also I have a 3W 85xi and keleo scale exhaust. My last spit crashed. I did not like the high pitch sound with the keleo canister. I was thinking of running the manifold straight to the stacks without the canister. I know it will be louder i dont care about noise. Do you think i would loose power or stay the same.</p>

Sorry to hear about the lost of your first Spit, Glad to see you building another one.
All the rivet are done with white glue and applied with a hypodermic syringe. Most of the cockpit items, including the seat were purchased from, if I remember: http://www.aerocockpit.com/complete-cockpit-kits/. Since I am doing a Mark vb I did not use the gun site and made made the early version. I found the seat to be to wide so narrowed it by about 1/4", I created most of the other items and weathered the cockpit interior. To make the former I used various template created by drawing a line on a thin cart-board that follow the fuselage curve, after few repetition on end up with the curve, it does take some time to accomplish. The formers are made of poster boards that you can purchase at any art store. I preferred to not use Keleo exhaust since I needed the fuselage space for other application such as the engine cooling ducting, beside the version I selected has only three fishtail stacks on each side. I selected a Bisson pit muffler that a local friend modified to fit inside the cowl.
Actually I am working on the flap detail and hinging since I cut them off from the wing, removed the foam layer and laminate them with carbon fiber, this to keep the top detailed skin.
I fabricated wood hinges hardened with CA glued in place with epoxy/micro balloon mix, the flaps have a 9/32 aluminum tube glued at the leading edge and slotted to fit the hinge on the wing. A 6mm carbon fiber tube runs thru the aluminum tube and hinge adding rigidity to the system. The inner flaps with receive the same treatment.

Flyingchef, the detail your putting into your spit...... i dont have words for. The flaps are really nice. I decided to use dbalsa formers and walls for my cockpit along with the aeroscale cockpit fro my other spit. As for the kelco exhaust, i decided not to use the canister. Icut the firewall to fit the wrap around pitts i already had for my 3W85xi. I am going to use the kelco exhaust stacks and try running some tubing to them from the pits muffler. I hope it dont hinder the performance of the engine. I'll just have them on for a scale look, just no functional.

Well!
Slowly things are progressing, the fuselage if ready for the base color and few more things to complete on the wing. Still to cold here in Colorado to get any paint done (garage) so I'll just keep adding more details on the beast.

You're setting the bar very high on this build. I noticed one thing you may want to check. Here's a link to a pic of a restored Spit with a very similar gun sight. I'm not sure if it is identical to the model you installed but in the full scale version it seems to be mounted a little highers on the frame so the little guy can view and target the bad guys. Not a criticism, just an observation.

It is a Fiber Classic. It has a Q-100 in it. Not sure what it weighs. I am guessing about the same as my other ones weighed with the 3W 80's in them. Hoping to make it to WOD but not sure yet. Owatonna for you and Doug? I asgree the pilot looks very sad.

Nice to hear from you, did you get the Evolution 260 engine? I was looking at it last October for my Sea Fury but the diameter is 1/4" to wide to fit in the cowl, I picked up a DLE222 instead.
I hope that the flap system works as expected, it allows a full 90 degrees down and looks better than what I started with!
As progress goes, the engine cooling intake to fit in the large wing scoop is done and I should get the setup installed by this weekend.

The cooling air pickup scoop in done, the fiberglass ducting fits well and it didn't take me much time to glue the assembly. Once the plane painted the inside of the scoop will be black.

Little more work done until warm enough to paint.
I made new flaps indicators hatches since the material used to mold the plane was to weak in my opinion. G10 0.010 sandwiched with 1/64 plywood, brass piano mini hinge and a rubber band to keep the hatch closed when the flaps are in up position. I also detailed the fuel tank filler located on the top fuselage front of the windshield and some blisters on the cowl.

If may I make a suggestion, ditch the rubberbands for small springs, you can find these at any hardware store in various sizes and lengths. I used rubberbands on my working hand and footholds on my 109F, and had to replace them as the degrade very quickly as they dry out. It may not be that easy to replace them later if you need too!
