She's a beauty!
One of the best I've seen.
You've got the colour tones/gradients/weathering of the green/grey scheme just perfect IMO.
Not normally seen across the pond.
You've just got to add a mock-up of the cockpit door latch/handle assambly.
A couple of hours with a little litho plate and some piano wire.
It'll clinch the deal on that close up picture!
Good luck with the cooling/ maiden BTW.
PS, add the latch and take a LOAD of pictures before hand.
Congratulations once again, it's a cracker.

Thanks Guys!
I have the door latch in the works and should have it installed by next weekend!
I plan to be at Warbirds over the Rockies.
Keep them flying!

chef,

Congrats on the finished build, I'm sure you've logged a few minutes just staring at it! Beautiful craftmanship and attention to detail sir. You must be about as proud as a new papa! Now take care of that baby so we all can enjoy it with you. If I'm lucky, I'll make it to WOTR this year and get to see it myself.

Hi Bruno, nice build! How far could you have slid the 3w forward and still been able to get your pitts muffler to fit inside the cowl?

I would assume about 1", I sold the Spitfire and hope to find another opportunity to buy another one.
In the next one to solve the cooling I will cut and bring the firewall about few inches back to leave plenty of space behind the engine for cooling and keeping everything inside the cowl.
Now I just have to find someone who would sell his CARF Spitfire kit!

Thanks! Sorry you had to sell it! I bougt one with a zdz80 and it is a bit anemic. I have a 3w85 and am thinking of swapping it out but the exhaust is the only holdup. Did jtech make that one for you? It looked nice. Did you ever get a chance to run it? Pitts mufflers either seem to be too restrictive or too loud. I am hoping to pick up about 1000 rpm with the 3w..

The muffler is from Bison, Aircraft international sells also a pit muffler. I had the bison modified to fit in the cowl before I moved the engine forward to improve the cooling, that's why on the latest pictures there is a big opening on the cowl to clear the muffler. In my next one I'll cut the fuselage back to give plenty of space behind the engine, I already have another 3W85Xi CS and pit muffler, just have to wait for a good opportunity on the plane!
Good luck with your Spit, they do fly great!

The scheme is from the full scale that flew in the battle of Britain till 1942 piloted by the free France pilot Francois de Labouchere of le groupe de chasse "ILE DE FRANCE", 340 Sqn of the RAF.
This Spitfire is a MK Vb GW-Y/EN908, top is dark green and Ocean grey, bottom is medium sea grey. The all plane was painted using Klass-Kote even for the markings and nose art with some Testor enamel for some of the fine details. Both side of the fuselage, by the from windshield adorn the Cross of Loraine wich is one of the symbol of France. A black cat is painted on the port side bellow the last exhaust stack, this insignia represent a toy that was given by a girl friend. Francois de Labouchere was killed in action September 5th 1942 in a dog fight against German fighters where his squadron was well outnumbered.
He is an example of many courageous men and women from many countries that fought for the right of independence and freedom.
Next stop Mike Reeves 1/4 scale Mk IX Spitfire beer hauler.
340 RAF Squadron was formed on 7 November 1941.

The Battle of Britain was from 10 July 1940 to 31 October 1940.

Hope that doesn't mean you have to re-paint the colour scheme!
