Default Fiberclassics Engine thrust

Thanks for all the earlier help.

I am putting on my DA100 and want to know what thrust angle you guys set yours at?

I have heard some guys adding a little more right thrust.

How much did you move it (what size shim or washer)

Also Shill and Quist had mentioned that the exit holes on the pull-pull are not right.

Could you guys please measure where your exit holes are in relation to the horizontal stab tube or take a pic of the area.
I dont want to hack a hole in this plane and find out it needs to be two inches further up. I would realy appreciate it

Thanks again in advance!!

I will add some more pics of the building of this plane for those that are intrested in a day or two

My recomendation would be to build it fly it then determine what you need.

Thanks

I may try that and see what it needs. I just noticed more than afew guys mentioning more right thrust.

Thanks for replying

I hae a 1/32" shim of right thrust. Your exit holes will change with the mounting of the servo tray. I will take a pic of what I did today.

Also I had the chance to fly my plane with the new tank mount and I am very happy with it I will also try to take a pic of it. It is light wieght and sturdy.

Basically I used gussets, 2 on the front and 2 on the back over the spar box and then put tristock for add strength.

Then I used double sided tape to keep the tank from sliding and then used velcro to fasten the tank. I also added some 1/4" stock on the fron and back to keep the velcro from sliding off.

Here you can see how I added the brass tube for the anti rotation pins to slide into. The tube goes all the way through the fuse and it is glued in place with PFM.

Both of us that have the plane here were have trouble with the stab developing slop. With this the whole anti rotation pin is secured instead of the width of the fuse (1/8")

Thanks for the nice pics.

I mounted my tank under the spars. I used a 32 oz. B&B fuel tank. It is just thin enough to fit in there. I was going to do something like you did but got lucky with the tank profile. nice install

I like the brass tube supporting the rotation pin. Do you remember what size tube worked best. Did you just drill out the hole slightly and then glue in the tube?

How about the exit holes for the rudder?

Did you have any issues with the motor lining up right using the given holes? Don at Planes Plus told me there could be a problem and to glue the motor on the firewall first . Then check the fit.
It looks like the holes are lined up ok to me.

Thanks Again

Dave

I had to raise the motor a 1/4" and it still is low in the cowl. I took the stab to the store and tried them all. I believe it was the 7/16th tube and yes I filed the fuse until it fit.

I forgot to post the pull pull slot I will get that now.

Thanks Quist for the great info.

They must have had reapeted problems with the antirotation pin for the horizontal stab. When I went to do the fix it you recomended (thanks) I found that the holes had been beefed up and there is about 3/8 in. of extra material added. It looks pretty good and is 3-4 times thicker than the rest of the composit. I can see by your photo this hasnt been done on your model and with only the thin material it would a definite problem. I am going to leave it this way and keep an eye on it.

I am going to have a friend hold the plane up and I am going to get on a ladder and put the DA up there and try to line it up nice and then mark the holes and see how they line up.

I cant belive that the plane is designed around the DA, The directions tell you that it is the perfect alignment and the holes are prestarted, that there could be a issue.

I will let you know what happens and post some pics.

Quist,

I mounted the motor today and it was going to be to low if I had used there holes.

It needed to be 1/4" higher than they marked to line up decent.

I read in the manual that this is the thrust line for the plane.

Do you think it changes anything by moving it up a bit?

We havent moved the thrust angles at all so I dont think it will matter.

I also added a 1/32" spacer to give it some more right thrust.

Did you fly it first without the spacer then add it latter after you found that you needed it?

You saved me with that motor mount problem!!

Thanks again

Dave

Dave,
How much up thrust did you put in it? Could that be why the holes are on the low side? Even still 1/4" would translate into allot of up thrust. At least a degree or two. But the plane may need this I donno.

Dave I am glad I can help.

I did fly the plane before I changed the thrust.
no the raising of the motor did not change the flight of the plane.

Quist,

I Forgot to ask you if you crossed the rudder cables or not?

Plane is coming together nice.

Only had one F@#$ UP at two in the morning on an all night plane fest. I cut out the wrong side of one of the wheel pants.
Man was I mad.

On a better note Don at Planes Plus sent me a new canopy to repace my scrathed clear one and I found it was a tinted one that I had wanted.

Thanks again

Dave

Quist,

You helped me more than you know again.

I installed the pull-pull last night and with that perfect pic. you posted I was able to cut the exit holes right on the money!!!

It was going to be a mental chalange since everyone said the holes on the directions are wrong. I sure didnt want to be off even as much as a half inch.

Ill show you when I post the pics of the finished plane,Probably tomorrow

One more question. Did you cut your pipes on the DA down a bit to get the cowl to fit or did you open up the cowl to fit. I would have to open it up alot to get the pipes to fit through. I already cut the pipes about 3/4" shorter. I either have to still open it up a fair amount or cut the pipes some more or both.

I didnt want to hack into the cowl too much

What did you do or anyone else that has this plane and motor combo.

Thanks Again

Dave

about a 1/2 inch off the pipe. I did not have a big hole in the cowl.
