Default Got a problem just not quite sure what...

Alright, here is my dilemma. I run my 2.5 through about 2/3 of a tank of nitro and then truck just seems to lose power. The engine seems to be peaking out still but, the truck isn't moving the way it should. I checked to make sure the slipper was tight and it was. I'm fairly new to RC but, from what I've learned this is what I suspect:

1. The engine is getting too hot (I didn't have my temp guage on me when I ran into this problem), but, I'm not sure if that is one of the symptoms of a "too hot engine"

2. The centrifugal clutch is glazing over and causing slippage.

Those are my guesses right now. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time t work on the truck lately so, I'd appreciate any help on which to check first. I will check the next time I take the truck out.

Thanks for the help,
Jettman

Hey man, I doubt its your clutch shoes or slipper, possibly heat, what part of the AE are you in right now? I know its smoking hot in some places already. When you are at wide open throttle, does it cut out like it is running out of gas at all even though there is still fuel in the tank?

I noticed today my 2.5 was doing something kinda similar. After about 2/3-3/4 empty it doesn't seem as pepppy. Once, it stalled and it was impossible to start, I know it wasn't hot I was running very rich and the gauge was at 240. I filled up the tank, and it started right up, first shot. Mine starts right up first thing, but once it been running for awhile, it's really tough, I don't think it's getting fuel(I can hear pinging while starting) for some reason after the engine has warmed up. I think my 2.5 may be on it's last leg after only 2 gallons. I didn't have a temp. gauge til a couple weeks ago and when I ran it for the first time it read 340. may have been that hot all along. Almost like I can't get good tank pressure unless it's over half full.

Do the water test on the head. Put a drop of water on the head, if it evaporates within 2 seconds, then it's too hot. If it takes about 4 seconds then it should be OK. Always make sure that smoke is coming out the pipe when your on the throttle.

I have a temp. gage, plus I can grab it with my hand, I know it's not hot.

Well Slodsm, I'm in germany so it definitely isn't too hot here... LOL

So, are you guys telling me that a lack of fuel pressure could be the culprit and causing the engine to get too hot?

I'm thinking too hot is probably the problem. I will try to take it out this weekend. and see what it does. I'm running pretty rich I always have smoke coming out ( well, now that I think about it I wasn't paying attention to the smoke once it started to lose power.)

I'd really like to just go ahead and invest in the new Picco P2 .21 drop-in. But, convincing the wife after just dropping the money on my Pirate MT sport is a little hard to do.

I'm starting to think that if I didn't have all the money invested in the truck (broken parts replaced with better ones) I'd sell the damn thing

I know one option to help heat disipation (SP) be to get a new head? ANd which one you recommend?

I'll let you know what happens this weekend.

Thanks,
Jettman
