I drove a reed engine a few months ago in an Insane Sport gas hull. It was the boats maiden voyage and there was a difference of opinions between me and the owner so I couldn't tweak on it. The engine has potential but I won't know for a while as winter is fast approaching. The guy is more into scooter modding and does work for Dave's Discount Motors and goes under the name of Earth Surfer.
Here's a thread on Earth Surfer's boat: http://www.modelgasboats.com/forum/1...ngine-is-done/

DDM deals with gas RC trucks, boats and those go-ped scooters. http://www.davesmotors.com/site/index.html

Torque versus topend depends on the size of the boat ,bigger needs more torque usually.

As Far as I know ,In this 2010 NAVIGA most  racers used CMB enigine except for Mr. Dave Marles,he think his JG 26CC is better than CMB 35cc

I have a buddy with an insane Gen3 hydro with a TS marine reed motor and it runs good but the most I've seen it do was mid to high 60s. Which is about as my Gen2 does with a redline zenoah. I did have a QD motor in it and it was in the lower 70, so you can come up with your own conclusions from that.

BUT, I do run a reed motor in my large scale land car and I can tell you that it builds power like nothing else. I know its giving me upwards of 10 MPH with a combination of torque and gearing. This is something that the fully modded zenoah couldnt do. Below is a vid of the TS boat.

Not likely a reed will beat a piston port ,reeds only take the hit off the pipe. Ultimately the max hp between the two would be about the same. With the piston port having the edge. If this was used in a car with a transmission it would work good, but in a boat the reeds are not a good idea. Just adds cost.

After watching the video earlier today I noticed that the boat didn't either seem like it was getting up to speed as fast as a regular ported mill or he was babying it up to speed.

Saying NOT a PUM would make it the air cooled RC version then ?

If thats the case ... NO it is not practical what so ever to convert to PUM specs, sadly they are completely different engines in terms of major components
