Need help in gearbox!
Hi guys, I just bought a Tamiya tiger a few days ago.
I notice that is a plastic gearbox. So, does that mean the gear is not suitable for walking on grass?
If yes, any other choice? Impact? Asiatam? (will they fill into the hull without modification?) thanks

RE: Need help in gearbox!
Tamiya gearboxes are pretty rugged IMO. you may want to go to ETO armor and get chassis/gearbox stiffener - DP08 for Tiger 1, DP07 for King Tiger.

If you bought a new kit and it has the gearboxes with the black plastic covers, you are fine. They will take competition with metal tracks with no problems.

And counldn't find DP08 at ETO(seems out of stock). So, should I get the new vision with black cover or take another choice?

pangpang_man,
The gearbox brace was at the top of the Tiger 1 page of products here is the direct link to the item.

Yes, get the one on the left for Tiger 1/King Tiger, they are the same for those two tanks. The one on the right is the original Type 1, long out of production and very much too fast. The one on the left is Type 3, the latest. Sherman and Panther use different length final drive shafts and while they will physically fit your King, the output shaft will be too short by about 3mm with a Sherman TU and far too long for a Panther/JP TU.
