Inventor with complete Noobage of RC gears and slip clutches
Hi all - I've been building an invention and it uses an RC motor to turn a 6x6 inch door/flap 90 degrees. What a waste of revolutions right? Only a 1/4 turn? Actually it works really well - smooth and powerful.
When I went into the hobby shop I selected a480 Motor with press fit 19T 0.5 Module Pinion gear. I asked the guy behind the counter which gear (I assume spur gear) would work with this pinion gear. Although he had a bunch on the wall behind him there was only one he could provide - a traxxas 64 tooth spur gear.
That gear was ok - but it had a large diameter hole in the center that took a lot of fanagling to mount to an axle. Here is a photo of the end product.
So to the experts, how do I know which gears will work with this pinion? I guess what should I be looking for or avoiding?
I'd like to make a DIY slip clutch but can't find any expamples on the web to save my life. I need something down and dirty. Off the shelf would be fine if it is cheap. Any suggestions on a clutch?
Lastly, what do you think of this motor? For the price it has some good torque. And for a motor that will only turn say 50 times instant torque is paramont. Are there better ones for less $$?
Any help appreciated - this is a cool invention and I hope it turns out well.

Been down that road but then you have to modify to get 90 degrees, need a controller, etc. Cost goes up. Also need high torque and very high speed.

By the looks of it that 64 tooth spur is off the traxxas emax

seems gearing wise
is fine
As for slipper clutch traxxas have pads behind the spur gear with a bolt running throught with a spring attached which can be tightened down to not slip or undone to slip alittle etc
see below piccy.
Im waiting for someone to suggest you use a brushless motor now LOL

12-to-22-teeth or the optional 64

What about this? Its not a slipper, but might get you in the right direction.
