Default DLE 30

I just changed the spark plug on my DLE30 to an NGK plug. Indoing so I twisted the spring in the spark plug cap beyond use. How important is this spring. I don't really know its usefulness.
If it is necessary to have or not. If it is needed where can I get replacements. I checked Tower Hobbies and couldnt find a replacement.
Anybody with knowlege of this please let me know.
Thank You,Hothead

just take a spring out of a small ink pen and cut it down to fit.

Yes there was a spare spring with the engine . it got ruined the 1st time i pulled the cap off to clean the fouled origional plug.
This spring is bigger than a pen spring, being +- 1/2"in dia. and about 5 coils.
What is the usefulness of this spring?

I just called Hobico. They are going to send me a new spring. The tech said it was just to help hold the cap on the plug.
If that is the case This cap is so tight on the top of the sparkplug it would never come off.

When you pull the cap off - it takes considerable force.

When the cap comes off - the spring goes flying out into the grass somewhere? I found it with a magnet.

The spring is not for help the cap hold in the plug.

It helps to improve contact between cap and spark plug , if the cap is loosen.

Here in my country we have replacement springs from RCEXL ....

All Hobico knows is how to grab your green.

The large spring is to assist and assure the cap maintains ground contact with the plug base. if the cap is tight enough that it will not turn on the plug the spring is not needed. if you lose the spring and cannot achieve a tight contact you can file away the fore and aft ridge on the cap and use a small plumbing clamp to secure the cap.

So a trip to the local auto parts stors bypasses phone calls to Hobbico for those that are not feint of heart. The clamps never fly away.

I read some where on here about beveling the hex part of the spark plug just alittle.
After doing this my cap goes on so easy and when I take it off I take a screw driver and gently pop it off while holding on to the cap so as not to lose the spring

That may cause another problem...if it goes on easy...it may come OFF easy enough to loose good connection. Capt,n

Which is why I just dump the lower clamp ring, file off a section of the cap ridge front and back, and use a hose clap. Goes on easy and stays on forever until the screwdriver loosens the hose clamp. No possibility of error, which so many seem to experience when they don't push the caps on far enough or ruin the ring clamp tension by removing the cap incorrectly.

Not sure, but the only thing I would add to this...is to place some silicone grease on the porcelan to prevent moisture... allowing spark to follow to spark plug base. Check on that idea first ! Capt,n
