New Member, not sure what RC to get
Hi. My name is Nick. I'm 21, and relatively new to the RC world. I've had a bunch of tiny electric RC Heli's growing up, but I've heard alot about RC Trophy Trucks lately and it's definitely sparked my interest.
Anyway, I'm looking (note* not seriously at this time) for a good basher. Something that's fun, fast, and is capable of being "hopped up" pretty easily. I'd prefer Nitro over electric, just because I have more respect for engines than electric motors. I'm not knocking anyone who uses electric motors because I realize that they're very popular these days, however, I've wanted a Nitro since I was a kid. Lately I've been looking at the Traxxas Slayer Pro 4x4 because it looks fun on-road, off-road and from the reviews I've read it's pretty durable. I also really like how it has the TRX 3.3 engine in it from the YouTube videos/reviews it seems pretty kick-butt. At the same time, I've been looking at the T-Maxx 3.3, too. I've heard of a lot of people going with dual 3.3 Engines and/or supped up with NO2, which I find pretty appealing. At the same time, it's larger (bleh.., slower (bleh..), and cannot really be retrofitted for racing (should I ever decide to go that route.
Does anyone have any helpful input that can help me decide on what to get?Like I said, I'm not looking too seriously at the moment... but I'd like to get one as soon as I can afford it. Would prefer total cost to be =/> $400
And before anyone asks Yes, I have read the FAQs.
Thanks for reading, hopefully I'll be RCing very soon.
TMB/Nick

bullet proof is a 1/8 buggie such as a OFNA, tons of power speed and handling and air time, no wheelies here. for a more crawling over stuff and heavy bashing, another route is 1/8 monster trucks such as the savage (do not advise t-maxx or traxxas except for a sweet deal) but they are a bit more fragile, slower, worse handling than a buggy, but alot better through tall grass, weeds and stones.
you can get one used, but as a new hobbiest, i would suggest new or at least in great shape and fully RTR.
good luck.

Is there any specific reason to avoid Traxxas/T-Maxx? (Or was that the reason [ie: slow, fragile, etc..]) I'm not interested in buggies or anything like that, and 1/8 (though not much different from the 1/10) is a little too big for me, I think. The sort of bashing I would do would be mainly roads, short grass, dirt... No rocks here. I've never really seen the point in rock-crawler RCs, or rock-crawling at all for that matter. I just don't "get it," I guess. What are the direct competitors to the Traxxas Slayer Pro 4x4? Maybe I could look at those a bit, too... I really like the sport/trophy-truck stuff going on with that and the Slasher model. Again, the only reason I'm not really interested in the Slasher is that it's got the electric engine.

I own several Traxxas trucks and i love them! never had a probelm sending my slash VXL 10-12' in the air off seep ramps. same with my stampede (basic stock truck).
For the best of both worlds get a 4wd slash. raise it up to 4" and getting good mud tires. I got the idea from URC.com its called the Chimera-A Project. (i did one and its kewwwwl)
As for competition to the slayer its the Team Associated SC8 and the ONFA 10SC/ SCRT-10. My problem with the Slayer PRO is that it doesnt come with indipendent suspension... all the others listed do.
Just look around and see what you can afford. Team associated has some great products.

EDIT: if you get a nitro that might limit you at the local race track. you might not fit into as many races as an electric.

The 1/8th buggies, are about the same size as the 1/10th scale stadium trucks
Honestly if you don't like the buggy look you could probably rip the wing off, and throw a truck body on it and call it a truck
Handling, performance, and value you will not beat the ofna buggies.
or here https://www.rcdeal.com/modules/store...m=1007&store=4
1/12th scale truggy kit comes with free engine
You will need a radio and servos though (under $100 more in parts)
