RE: savage x gearing question
I use 16/49, but I'm also running a Picco 28 and CEN diffs, so that's not much help to you.
The few guys in my area who still run Savages seem to prefer 17/47 with the stock F4.6 engine.

RE: savage x gearing question
I prefer the 17/52 in an X. While running the X engine plate in my XL that same gearing worked WELL. Currently running 17/47 and its pretty solid. However im running a Modded Picco w ERCM pipe and BP diffs.
I think you would enjoy the response of the 17t CB

RE: savage x gearing question
I prefer the 20 tooth CB with 47 tooth spur but it also has a 3-speed which gives you more low end punch. If it were the 2-speed, 17-47 would probably be my pick...
