New Stampede inbound
I finally broke down and decided to get my first RC truck. After a lot of research and thought I decided to get a Traxxas Stampede XL-5 kit (the AM version) which will be here next Tuesday. One thing I've got on my "to do" list is putting RPM bearing carriers (along with 5x11 bearings), caster blocks and A-arms on as soon as possible. I also want to upgrade the shocks and shock towers later on as well.
What other upgrades should I be looking at? Is there anything else I should put on the immediate list? I'm new to all this so any help is much appreciated.

RE: New Stampede inbound
Congrats on the purchase. I also have the XL5 version, and the 4X4 vxl version. I honestly wouldnt upgrade anything until its broke. If anything, replace the bushings in the wheels with bearings. Otherwhise put your money towards a good charger and batteries. Some nice wheels and tires, etc. No need to upgrade. The parts are pretty tough. If you break something, upgrade at that point. Thats what i always do, and i rarely have to replace anything. The charger and batteries will be the best thing for you. Bearings 2nd.. Have FUN.....

I second ball bearings and the bumper, it's practical and adds something extra to the front end of the truck.
Down the road if you want to try something a bit different, Proline's Pro-track suspension kit for the Slash fits the 2WD Stampede; as well as their big bore shocks. The suspension kit makes the front and rear suspension arms equal length which allows you to use the same offset wheel front to rear and is advertised to make the vehicle more stable in turns and jump more consistently. It also features new shock towers and rear hub carriers for increased durability. It's about $60 for the kit and I belive the shocks are $60 too but, they are not required for the kit.
I have 2 'Pede 2WDs and these items are on my to do list.
