Pinch method for fuel mix setting/or?
Guys this is not a poll...but how many of you use the pinch method to set the Hi speed mix and how many of you use the by ear or RPM readings on a tackometer? I know some guys like the pinch method for glow engines. I am talking GAS engines here. I have adjusted the Hi speed mix by ear on hundreds of engines. I have not read much about pinch method for gas....unless I missed the data. Thanks Capt,n
PS Add the reasons why you use a certain method. Thanks again

I use the pinch method for tuning glow and by ear for gas. I use a tach primarily to compare props or different fuel blends.

For god sake captinjohn everyone, and I mean everyone knows you set a gas engine with a tacho and not by ear, what a idiot you have wasted my time by asking this question when a simple search was all that was needed are you stupid, how dare you be on my forum, you have wasted my valuble time by forcing me to answer this question, crasy fool.

Depends on
What oil?
What Oil ratio?
Coleman, Pump, Premium pump, 100ll Avgas or ?? fuel
Which brand of spark plug? (Which brand do you use and why?)
Ok, just in case it is serious, Ralph answered correctly in post 2.
I don't encourage the pinch method on Gassers because many fliers that require it come from a glow background and expect the "instant" result that method gives on a glow engine. If a gasser gives that same result instantly, it either has a problem with the pump or is not tuned right.
I tune high end by tachometer, low by ear, then the rest by minor adjustments whilst flying and reading plugs. I only ever use the tacho again after that if I am changing to a smaller prop and want to make sure I am not over revving the engine.

Thanks Raydar!
After working all day putting log siding on a house in a typical Iowa summer day, the kind of day where, when you get home at night you can wring sweat out of your underwear, I was just about shot. I had just enough energy left to tune in to RC Universe and see what was going on. Read your post and laughed my butt off for five minutes, in fact had to read it three more times and laughed every time.
You made my night Raydar.
TOM does keep things stirred up in this section. It's just like reality TV. You have to tune in to this forum at least once a week to see what all happened.

The pinch method I use is simple and works every time. This is how it goes:
1. I tune according to the "cheat sheet" written by TOM
2. I pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming - no engine can run this well

None!
The drop off point where you still have top rpm already is 10% to 20% rich!!!!!. Gas is not glow.<br type="_moz" />
