Default Increasing flight times

I've noticed in all the descriptions that the electric heli's can only fly for about 15 minutes at a time with a recharging time of about 2-3 hours. That's with a 7-cell Nicad battery

What are the differenct size batteries available for longer flight times? Can anyone point me to a site with more info for newbies?

Or should I go with the teathered Hirobo Lama and keep flying til my gf leaves me?

thanks

You should be able to find plenty of info here for newbies, just use the search feature, you will also find plentiful info at www.rcgroups.com

As far as batteries, if you have a pretty good charger, it will not take 2-3 hours to charge a 7 cell nicd pack, more like an average of 45 min. depending on the capacity and I haven't heard of any 7 cell nicd packs that you can fly 15 minutes with...

Not sure if you're talking about a micro heli or something else but...

Lithium Ion and Lithium Polymer batteries are the way to go for better voltage handling and waay longer flight times, Steve Mcbride got 39 minutes on his Hummingbird with a Thunder Powr 1950 2 cell Lipo pack... The Lithium packs on the other hand do take a lot longer than nicd/nimh, maybe 1.5-2 hours to charge with a lithium compatible charger like the Triton which I have and really like...

As far as that tethered Hirobo Lama, I never got to try one but that would be a great trainer, it's supposed to be a lot more stable than a micro heli for less frustration while learning plus the benefit of run time. The only down fall about it is obvious.
