Non Chinese Gas Engines
After a few suggestions, I decided to start this as a new thread.
Those that know me will know I have been through a few different experiences with Engines made in China and no longer fly any brands from there even though there are one or two brand made there that are decent enough products.
As there are many threads already covering the Chinese products. (a new one seems to pop up every time a new brand pops up from there. That sometimes seems to be a daily occurence) This thread is not aimed at discussing those.
I have personally discovered the overall benefits of MVVS, 3W, BME and Zenoah products. For me they just work well as my flying time is limited and when I do get to fly, I just want my enignes to work straight away and stay working whilst I give them a hard time. Those brands do it for me.
Feel free to discuss the brands refered to in the thread title and join the new "brotherhood" of those that have also experienced some or all of these brands. No infighting allowed as the measure of success is defined by the power curve and the longevity.

RE: Non Chinese Gas Engines
I'll make a start .. on a small one, MVVS26cc
I have a 73" Sbach that is designed for 30cc - 35cc - something I imported a few of last year but only ever sold a few and kept a couple of them for myself.
Because I had the 26cc, I bolted one in. The engine is still new - less than a litre of fuel through it.
I put a JTec Pitts muffler on the engine and an 18x6 prop.
After tuning, I get 8,700 RPM static on the 18x6 and the plane has near unlimited vertical.
18x8 is probably a better prop because the max powerband of the 26cc is at or around 7,500RPM
When the 30cc come in, I intend to swap out for a 30cc and try a 19x6 prop. Should be fun

Ari as for MVVS my friend up here has the 40. Quite a little powerhouse. One of my other friends that moved away has the 58 on a pipe. It is a special edition version he bought off of Pe. It turns a laminated 24x10 like nothing. Tom will be in for a very nice surprise when he gets his 116 running from what I have seen of it's smaller cousins.

RE: Non Chinese Gas Engines
I guess I'd better post my actual list then
the following are in airframes now. I have multiples of a number of the ones listed.
BME 0.90 (15cc) (Borderline as to if it belongs in this category - I know)
BME 58
BME 116
MVVS 116
MVVS 26
MVVS 40
MVVS 58
MVVS 80 Single spark
MVVS 80 Twin Spark
MVVS 116.
3W 28i
3W 55 xi
3W 55 xi CS
3W 170 TSCS
3W 210 TSCS
G62 (converted by me to an RCExcel ignition - it ain't anywhere near as nice to look at as the ones Ralph and Milton made)
YD-A 112 - (original West Aus made ones - not the ******* manufactured ones)
YD-A 56 - (also originals made here)
YD-A 23cc, 38cc and 42cc (only one of each ever made as a prototype and will not be sent to the market)
Ready to go into an airframe but not yet flown
3W 342
Airframes waiting for these when they arrive
MVVS 30 (on its way)
MVVS 320 (not released for the public yet)
Engines that I don't have but would like to get my hands on - just because.
MVVS 58 IRS LC (Liquid cooled 58)
MVVS 116 IRS Liquid Cooled (I think this was made by Pe Reivers and not by MVVS themself)
And the winner of the shiniest engine of the above list goes to - BME hands down. The winner of the best performers goes to all of them!!!!!!
I shouldn't have made that list as I have purchased many of these in the past two or so years - Scary thoughts

RE: Non Chinese Gas Engines
Maybe a bit off topic but I have just had a confirmation that work on the concrete slab for my new workshop will start Thursday and the slab itself is expected to be down on Monday.
So far, I have been storing my "essentials" including some 15 planes of various sizes ranging from 30cc up to 100cc in various places including the trailer.
On top of all of this, I have been squuzing in a work area for the build of my new project - the 133" Hostetler Cessna 421C
Even though the new workshop is by no means large, it will be a 6m x 4m, full height workshop in addition to the storage I currently have.
I cannot wait to be able to have most of my stuff properly stored and available and also have a decent build area.
Christmas must be early this year!

RE: Non Chinese Gas Engines
sometime around 9am the dor bell will ring. At the door will be a FedEx person with a box. Inside the box will be a Mintor Motori 33.
if it runs as good as it looks I'll be sold on the brand.

RE: Non Chinese Gas Engines
When someone spends a lot of money on items and then similar items are introduced that cost much, much less, with superior performance... (smile)
I've owned:
Two BME 44 engines
Two BME 50 engines
One Brison 2.4 CID engines
More Quadras than I can remember
More Zenoahs than I can remember
More MVVS gas engines than I can remember
More RCS gas engines than I can remember
I currently own:
One Zenoah G26 Lite
One Evolution 26cc GT
I might have a few more gas engines that fit this criteria. By the way, the two just mentioned are available, if anyone is interested.

RE: Non Chinese Gas Engines
Ralph Cunningham Zenoah G62 Lite
Zenoah G38 (standard mag version)
Ralph Cunningham Zenoah G26 with CH Ign. in mount
Zenoah G26 Mag (MVVS pipe received for this and awaiting Zenoah header. May also try on a mini pipe)
Zenoah G20ei
Brillelli 25GT
Fuji EH035 Four Stroke Conversion with Carr Precision Kit
Honda GX35 conversion by Brillelli
Honda GX25 Conversion with Carr Precision Kit
About to assemble a BME 50 Classic clone from Echo Shortblock and parts
I did buy and run a few of the Ch... engines, having been taken in by the hype a couple of years ago. That experience made me realise just how good the Zenoah's and others in the above list are so replaced the ch... engines with the Zenoah G 38 and standard G26 mag in the inventory.

RE: Non Chinese Gas Engines
Many of us in the Hobby industry desire to support American manufacturers. We at VAMODELBUILDERS are one of those. There are many finely made foreign engines that we handleand fly in our planes.Recently we have found an American made engine that we have begun marketing. The SYSSA AIRCRAFT PERFORMANCE 30CC ENGINE. They produce a finely finished product right here in the USA with manufacturing facility in Meridan CT. As of July we have added there 30cc engine to our engine offerings. The SYSSA 30 cc sells for $429.00 wich is obviously more than the street price of the DLA 32cc or the DLE30cc engines however for those who wish to by a finely made AMERICAN MADE engine it is a choice to consider.

I loaned my YDA-56 to a friend and let him keep it with the understanding that he lets me fly his Yak once in a while.
CH***** 62,28 and 26 that I can't mention
My newest and the one I'm exited about MVVS-116
